Yes people who die from Normal flu are either elderly or sick people with underlying conditions. Then you get the Majority dying because they are athletes in some form or another. They part take in sport while they have flu and die of heart failure.
You don't just die of the Flu.
However, in the case of this student he had no pre-existing conditions know to us and was pretty healthy. He died from Swine Flu....
There is a difference
I've read about that, however, the student left the flu for a week, then decided to mission off to the campus clinic, where they saw the student was pretty much ravaged by the virus, and then they sent him to the hospital, where he died...
Things we don't know:
If he had AIDS,
If he was a smoker,
If he was already sick and recovering from previous illness,
If he had a suppressed immune system (from drug usage),
The fact that he was sick for so long is concerning, depending on the person, normal flu can really give your body a serious beating. I usually never get flu, or colds or what ever, but last year I got everything (pink eye, ear infection, flu, rashes, you name it). Sometimes the body just isn't ready to fight an infection... you must also remember that the guy that died was a student, so perhaps he was drinking quite a lot of alcohol, and as a result, his immune system took a knock, which opened the gates for the virus to party in him.
Now to swine flu itself, it is a dangerous virus no doubt, it can kill, however, people are taking this to an over-the-top level... Lets face it, swine flu is no ebola, not even close, it's no smallpox, it's no spanish flu, it's no black death. However, the viruses are spreading faster thanks to the world getting "smaller" in the sense that a "long" journey takes 20 hours, not months, so the viruses can spread across many populations very quickly, resulting in more chances of mutations happening (so potentially more dangerous viruses). There's also more people per km^2 then ever people, therefor the virus can spread quickly....
The facts remain, swine flu is yet to prove itself as a serious people killer, as it stands, the virus is killing off the young and weak, hmmm, that sounds like just about every other infection (such as typhoid, cholera, "normal" flu, and so on). So there isn't really a difference, and my personal opinion is that sure, wash your hands all the time and just avoid obvious infectious zones, however, you don't have to walk around with a mask on, run from a cough/sneeze or go through extreme measures to avoid the virus If you catch it, then go to the doctor to decide what to do with you. The media is just making this virus look like the new Ji-Had, the new Russia, The new common enemy. People want to read bad news, and the Media just wants to get their rantings up.
