Tanking issues since Cata (Cata patch)

i got myself the mini void ray thing (from tbc) and some other companion. I just want an awesome mount :(
 
I'm getting to a point now where I'm starting to fine tune my Warrior.

Any input would be appreciated. I'm currently on 349 iLevel with be saving up some Truegold bars for the tanking sword and Belt (for now) I'm more concerned about
my avoidance stats. Please have a look at it if you guys have time and give me pointers. I'm currently busy at work doing the artwork for the All Africa games so my time to read through threads like www.Elitistjerks.com is a bit minimal :o

Drop some parry for dodge, you want parry .5-1% higher than dodge (around 300-500 rating difference)

You can remove/reforge expertise and hit out of your items if you haven't already, I know it's scary dropping down, but even before this threat buff, expertise and hit are pretty worthless

Trinkets need a bit of work, while the proc on Throngus's finger is nice for avoidance, it means you'll have less uptime for Hold the Line

The 2 trinkets I can recommend: Porcelain Crab (3rd boss Throne of Tides hc) is the best prot warrior trinket - it's a +14% block when it procs, and the Mirror of Broken Images (Tol Barad trinket)

Even swapping between gear/specs, I logout in the gear/spec that I want to optimize and onto an alt. Lookup the toon, hit Reload and all the new gear is there ready to optimize.
Only crap is, don't run it every time you get new gear, otherwise you will be driving yourself nuts with reforging. That and JC only gems, it frequently changes it's mind, so there is still a normal amount of using your own peanut to determine if you're going to do what it suggests.
 
Ugh. That AskMrRobot couldn't be more wrong. Put myself in there, and it said something completely different to what the EJ crowd are saying. I think I'd rather go with what the EJ crowd says, they usually right or very close to right.
 
agreed, mrrobot has got its head up its arse when it comes to my kitteh, but then again, everyone that doesnt play kitteh never seems to have a clue :p

Every tool that you can use towards bettering yourself has it's place. And each one has it's individual value towards the person using them.
It is therefore very subjective.

In my personal experience, I find it a lot easier to consult EJ on rotations and stat weights and then optimise via askmrrobot. (you can customise the stat weights and all kinds of things).
It has especially helped when optimising my alts that have hit level 85 and starting to get 359+ gear, without being a theorycrafting master of each class at the same time.

I use various resources for each class, purely because I don't always think that EJ is empirical in it's data and findings. Therefore, I use a mixture of my own mind, online theorycrafters and nifty little tools like rawr, wow-loot, guildox, askmrrobot or any of the others.
(for one, the warrior class is missing specific stat weights in numerical value on EJ)

*PS for one, I have found that a lot of sites disagree on which gems to put where or which stats to reforge on each item.
Like I said, it's subjective and therefore up to each person to decide.

Specifically for warriors which do you find incorrect... dps or prot? I haven't read as much EJ as I'd like to have done

Thats an awesome guide, just a few pointers from experience

Bear boss (2nd boss) - Keep Demo shout up, will shave off 8-12k damage off his Brutal Strike in P1.

Dragonhawk boss (3rd boss) is by far the hardest of the bosses, picking up those adds is a main priority... I tend to use Shockwave as they start spawning only to have it off CD for swarm of adds on the other side... Don't forget if you let some get through to Heroic Leap onto them :)

It's a pity the guide doesn't mention how nasty the trash can be :erm:

What an awesome weekend.

Got myself some things I needed on my toon and have been running the Troll heroics flawlessly with that strategies I got on that other page :)
Feel free to check my toon for some more advice. I reforged all my hit and expertise I could to Mastery and sitting on around 49% block now or something to that effect.

I'm actually loving WoW all over again.
 
Raid group asked me to do some Off-tanking with my warrior last night. Now I have to gear her up as tank in as short as time as possible. Doing FL raids so heroics (part from Zandari) will not suffice. Need to figure out what gear to get and where. First stop will be the AH to buy all the BOE gear, or get some more things crafted. Just need to figure out what ;)

Only started gearing her last week, so even on the dps side she is not fully there yet. But her tank gear is still from WOTLK.

Best way I did it was get minimum gs for heroics (Tanking gear ofc) Your guild needs to help you gear since they expect to have you OT which should make farming the heroics much easier. I had to pug it. The apart from that you get the VP and JP gear and once you have enough to hit the troll heroics it's just a matter of grinding I guess. O and the tanking craftable sword = kark expensive. best to farm the mats :D

BOE - Shoulders (Heaving Plates of Protection), VP Bracers (Bracers of Regal Force), Gun (Crossfire Carbine) - Ignore the Scales of Life trinket... expensive paperweight imo

Crafted - Chest (Elementium something), Belt (Hardened Elementium Girdle), Shield (Elementium Earthguard), Weapon (Unbreakable Guardian)

Get Necklace and Boots from Molten Front starter vendor (the Troll that starts with a "Z")
Get Bracers from Ramaken exalted rep (if you haven't unlocked the MF vendors)
Get Cloak from Guardians of Hyjal exalted rep
Get Ring 1 + 2 and Moonwell Phial trinket from the MF Vendors (if you've unlocked all 3)

Thats off the top of my head...

EDIT Get the Mirror of Broken Images from Tol Barad Exalted (120 or 125? badges)

Shield (Elementium Earthguard), was lucky and got a shield in ZA
Weapon (Unbreakable Guardian) - new weapons? but sounds obtainable

Quick responses to your red text;

Those BOE shoulders are rather rare these days since no-one farms BOT trash anymore

The Friendly FL cloak is better :p I didn't take them into account :o You could probably get a better belt from them too if you are honored?

The new weapons are the ilvl 365 items

Yup, get belt/cloak from FL vendor, very nice items those. Might as well do BH for tank items too, I was lucky enough to get gloves from it for my tanking gear.
 
Gear coming along nicely on my little gnome :o

Need a nice Neck, Shoulders and trinkets still. I remember engineering being able to make nice trinkets before I just keep forgetting to check mine. I might be bale to make something nice from there.

Currently sitting on 354 iLevel. Which I think is not to shabby for having to gear myself u completely alone with no guild help...
