Tanking issues since Cata (Cata patch)

Personally I think the gear requirements for pug raids are quite a bit higher than well organised guild raids. You can get quite decent gear from just doing ZG,ZA...
 
Everyone seem to miss one vital piece of information...

Old content is nerfed to hell, so hopping from ZG / ZA / VP epics into BWD / BoT is a hell of a lot easier nowdays... heroic modes of BoT / BWD however.... are still pretty tough.
You can get yourself 3 pieces of Tier 11 from just running EZ mode 5 man heroics nowdays. Seriously... its never been easier to get into raiding gear.

Any person that is asking for advice about raiding, and is still sitting with gear items with no gems + enchants, imho is just not serious enough in my books to deserve a serious answer. Any person that is remotely interrested in performing / raiding would have done the basic things by now...

True with raid content being nerfed, and I will be gearing my warrior up through these nerfed raids as well. BUT with the help of a well organised raid group, doing this with pugs and not being able to swing your e-peen like the pro's can get you kicked quite fast. Raid pugs mostly fail due to not having a good (very good Tanks) or good healers, imho.
 
Yup... as the tier's progress, you might just end up in a PUG with some sicko dps guys geared to the teeth :-p
I really feel sorry for tanks + healers that just dinged 85 and have to do critical jobs when you sit with a few dps guys doing 25k dps in 5 man heroics.

Usually we're the ones who'd get kicked for not being able to hold threat :erm:

Only if he's avoidance and armor is lousy :) at the levels I am healing on my shammy's, a tank with a high hp makes me more nervous, but if he can keep 80%, he has the right balance of stats.

Dps need to adjust their play if needed. If the healer or tank has said they are new to heroics then avoid aoe with my mage and ask tank to Mark so that mobs go down faster. A lot of dps don't give a hoot, then wine about wiping. I guess my experience in tanking and healing does help to appreciate the challenges they face. Except when it comes to my guild mates. I make them work for their dkp :)

I'm tanking at the moment and I haven't played on my hunter is the past 4 months...I'm still patiently waiting for a decent hunter to come along in ZA/ZG and actually use Tranq shot...

After experiencing how those enrages effects make the healers job harder, 1 GCD every once in a while would make everything so much easier. Much like rogues who don't use Shiv to remove enrage effects

/hints to all hunters to put Tranq shot on your action bar
 
I have actually come across hunters that use Tranq shot, its a blessing in disguise. Sadly, most of the time they don't care and let the tank take the punch. I have actually been kicked once out of a RHC on my DK because the healer didn't understand that, ohwell, got another instant queue and finished the instance.

Instance drops (if the tank doesn't want them/can't use them)/crafted gear/Justice or Valor Point upgrades
 
Well u should have no issue with threat now after the latest patch.
•Threat

•Threat generation for all tanks has been increased to 500%, up from 300%. This applies to warriors in Defensive Stance, death knights in Blood Presence, druids in Bear Form, and paladins with Righteous Fury.

•Vengeance should no longer be generated when damage is fully absorbed by damage shields. When the shield breaks from damage or damage is partially absorbed, the amount of Vengeance generated is equal to the full amount of damage taken (including the damage absorbed.)

•More information can be found in our latest Dev Watercooler.

Glad for this fix. The threat buff is meh
 
Not all hotfixes are cool though...

They fixed the little silencing trick on raggy... this week will be hell for us considering we relied on that little trick for our kill.

So much for taking shortcuts on bosses :-p

When is this patch?

I'm really getting the hang of tanking in Cata now. So this should make it a walk in the park :) In the troll Heroics on Single targets I build up to about 250 - 275% threat now where I had to taunt every time it was on cd :o. Thinking about it now it is actually a dungeon nerf now looking at the 500% buff on threat.

One more question I have though, I have now been in a couple of Troll heroics. I have not completed one. Each time I join people complain that I haven't done it before. Eventually all gets going as they don't want to queue for another 30 minutes. We do a boss or two and then I die. Not losing aggro or not moving out of crap and so on. Then the whole group just disbands. I have no idea if they think it's me or what?

Joined a new guild now who is farming heroics so we'll learn Troll Heroics together. Hope that helps a bit.
 
This patch was released on wednesday. makes a huge difference. before i struggled to hold aggro off the 20k dps guys, now they cant even touch me. Its actually dumbed down tanking A LOT.

when the dungeon starts just tune them "Listen owies i've never done, do you guys please mind explaining to me as we go".
If they say no, let them leave and sit in a queueu for 30 minutes, your have insta queue :) also everyone else can go suck a potplant. Your the tank, if they dont like it, leave.

But ya the guild thing will help a lot. I was skeptical tanking the Zandalari dungeons when i first came back cause i had no idea what to do.. ran each dungeon once (finished) and now its a walk in the park, sometimes its the group that sucks which makes it hard going. i like satchel of exotic mysteries :)

oooo so do I. I got the Giant Rat companion without having to fish 100's of hours in Dalaran for the achievement :D
 
Watch some youtube vids on the instances and encounters, and dont thell them you have not done it before? :P
