Tanking issues since Cata (Cata patch)

hehe yea I'm only at level 8 at the moment, but can not decide if I should do the effort in leveling my professions or wait till I can get a DK...hehe I joined the SA guild on Lightbringer EU, horde, last night only so still a LONG way to go.

PM me your toon's name. I'm Planning on making an UD hunter might as well do it on there I suppose. I'll /w you in game then

How are they(Warrior) in PvP or DK better?

DK will have a slight advantage as they have more classes they can trash vs a warrior. In WoW it's all about group play. One vs One is more about one class having certain classes they are good against and certain they suck against. As an example, a Warrior will slap the crap out of a rogue, but a mage will wtf pwn the warrior as an example.

Do you have a level 65 toon as yet?
If not you can't have a DK till one of your toons reach that level. It really depends on what you want out of your main toon. If you want a good tank which is great at PvP roll a Druid :D Rogue in PvP (Cat form) Tank (Bear) in Dungeons and raids.

I believe that you need a level 55 or higher character, not 65.

curse u guys for this thread, now i have to start playing again tonight after 4 months :( **dusts off the cobwebs on tanks armour**

hehe have to say poffle it's fun playing, will give you a /w Pitbull, we are 3 people leveling, 2 girls and a guy. Will PM our names.

I have both a 85 DK and 85 Warrior (only 85s for now) and both Tank very well, though I prefer the Warrior. When healers don't know how to heal a DK, you easily get complaints you take a lot of damage, but what the losers don't know is, you increase healing done to you by 40% by using a 1min cooldown when you know huge dmg inc, and they also self heal + bubble a lot of dmg away.

Warrior on the other hand, hard to manage your rage, but other than that, everything else is MUCH easier. I love how I outdps people all the time by doing 10-15k dps myself, even more if its lots of AoE.

So here is what I think. For beginners, DKs are easier to start out tanking with and to learn, Warriors have a higher learning curve (then again you have 85 levels to learn as opposed to the 30 on a DK) but less QQ from healers and can do cooler **** like Leap away when you see oh **** and want to give the healer that extra 2 seconds to get his/her heal off.

I think you're correct. I recall it being something just never needed that level since they launched as I had max level toons. So 55 it is.

Blizz changed ages ago so that if you have a lvl 55 on any realm you can create a DK on any realm, not restricted to the same realm

Getting to 55 and then restating with mining and herbing seems like to much of an effort lol...

Been levelling a resto shammy. Hit level 80 last night. My experience so far with tanks has been that I have had good and bad with all the the classes. If I had to rank them in term of easier to heal, i would say : paladin>warrior>Druid>DK

However, I find paladins are by far biggest wan###s, especially dwarfs, and I prefer to heal warriors and Druids. Their arrogance is unbelievable and instead of greeting everyone, the first words from them are something like "no slackers", or "I'm not waiting for anyone". I have to say it's not all paladins, but when you do loads of instances you notice a trend.

Druids are the best group with, because they often stop to get their bearings because they can't see much past their fat asses :)

Warriors need to plan their pull so they can shockwave the mobs. My only gripe with warriors is that they charge out of healing range or line of sight. I place my totems and they go off somewhere else. Thank the stars for earth shield

The problem with DK's is that they think they can tank with pvp gear. If they have tanking gear they are okay. They make the worse dps though and aggro constantly. Usually by the last boss, I don't bother healing them anymore, as it just puts the tank at risk if he gets a spike of dmg while I'm healing the dk. This may be due to the mechanics of shammy healing, where 99% of the time spamming my 2.3sec heal is fine. I can spam it for hours no problems, but when I have to use the fast healing surge on a dk which eats my mana, it gets annoying. A paladin tank who refuses to wait for anyone and a dk dps, make for the worse possible combo and usually doesn't end well.

Some tanks only need earth shield on them and few heals until they are only getting hit by 1 or 2 mobs, after which earth shield and my healing totem is enough. By then I am healing the dps only. An excellent tank is one where I start with full stacks of earth shield, 2 or 3 healing waves, refresh earth shield, take a sip of wine, depending on how I feel, throw a fire shock or even a lightning bolt or 2.

In summary, it's more the attitude of the player than the class that makes a good or bad tank. Well from a healer perspective anyway:)

Well now after playing this weekend, tanking is no different to how i left it 2 months ago :D. I can still keep agro with guys doing 18k-20k dps (this is just for HC's, my iLvl is 352), single & multi mobs.
Currently just buying ilvl 359 with justice points, cause blizzard once again said "oh noes we need to give every person epics now".

Is anyone here on twilights hammer horde side? Would be lekker to play with some myBB people.

You can invite people from other realms, as long as they are on your b.net friends list AND same faction. I changed my DK to horde to play with other buddies now and then thats on TH, but Ill be staying on Sylvanas, at least I can still get stuff between my chars when needed, and regardless, I only do RHCs with them.

Anyways, decided last nite for fun before raid wanna check out the old hcs, so rocked on my alt tank gear, and its crazy how easy those instances are now. Literally charge in, take all mobs and just go ape ****. I do more DPS in tank spec than most of those dps;ers, and the healer stands there 0_0 wondering why I don't need heals. Running with 230k HP in a RHC and never having my HP drop below 80% is kinda cool. If its a Shaman earthshield is enough to keep me up.

haha, i really need to up my gear. i only sit on +- 170k hp in R HC's :(

I really wanna see the cata raids, havnt done any. Problem is finding people in the guild who are not part of a current raid group (and also SKILLED people) because damn, some of them are lets say, a bit slow.

You really just need to buy all the JP Tier11 items, and then some T12 items by making sure you get your weekly VP (7 zandalari runs). You also wanna replace the DPS trinket with a real tanking one.

One of the best tanking trinkets out there is the alchemy mastery one, which you can fill up with a 30stam+20parry gem. Sadly you don't have alchemy.

Then you need to start pug BWD/BOT and get the shoulders/helm from the 2 end bosses, and hopefully a tanking weapon from maloriak, and a very nice trinket from Magmaw. I dno why people prefer to pug BOT, I personally always wanna do BWD because thats where the 1st best items come from.

If you have the gold, consider the BoE shoulders that drop from BoT, they look awesome and was some of the best 359 shoulders.

Cool ty. Will start working on that stuff. Is my gear good enough now to raid bwd?

Not if you are ganna tank. If you are going to DPS should be passable.

His gear is more than fine for tanking BWD, I don't see why not. He just needs to round off the gear with enchants and gems and that 1 dps trinket. I started tanking in way worse gear in BWD/BOT and it was fine.
