Tar Vs half brick Vs interlock paving

Just pave from gate to garage? Landscape the rest or get grass in spring, that's not a driveway that's an entire garden
Buffalo grass costs R100-R120 per m2 fitted, excluding irrigation and maintenance. If you like grass, then I understand why one would do it, but it's definitely not cheap or stress free.

Kikoyi is like 30 bucks an sqm and it's pretty hardy.

Slightly on topic, has anyone had experience of good weed management when you have paving? I just did a proper clean of my paving and it looks amazing. But I know that weeds will come through. Any suggested pre-emergence weed killers that you can chuck inbetween the paving to banish them weeds?

Don't think anyone would recommend it on a public forum because it's absolutely frowned upon, but glyphosate weed killer will do the job. It's terrible for the environment due to residues remaining in the soil for up to one year and for various health reasons.

I admit to using it in the past on paving around the pool, but suggest you think carefully before taking this route. It's applied while the weeds are actively growing, not as a preventative.

+1 that **** is really bad. Would avoid like the plague.

Why dont you just fill the gaps between the pavers with cement?

I would recommend it, round up and stuff is the mostly used herbicide out there for a reason. It's also not terrible for the environment and it's also not that harmful you may get a case here or there of cancer, but the chemical is so widely used and it doesn't effect 99% of the users,it may be something else that could've triggered the cancer.

The cement breaks down over time and weeds get back in. One of the ways that's supposed to be done is a weed protector under the pavers.

Which would you need to do more, spray weed killer or put cement in the cracks?

Weed killer, as you need to kill it first before you put more cement, otherwise it'll just keep growing.

The environment is more than just you.

Seriously toxic when it reaches ground water as well as lethal to bees. It’s way more than a weed killer.

It has been banned in some countries and others are in the process of banning it. Many countries you need a license for “restricted” use.

Lethal to bees?

It's not the glysophate killing the bees, it's the other ingredients in Roundup that are, like the emulsifiers and such.
Just because some countries are banning it doesn't mean it's bad, I mean we've seen countries banning porn, or some going overboard on banning other things. Until there is a herbicide as good as glysophate we need it.

Yes lethal to bees. That article you quote is from a pretty random source.

They found highly variable toxicity to bumblebees, including one formulation that killed 96% of the bees within 24 hours. Yet another herbicide formulation was found to cause no harm to bumblebees.

You know there are 100s of species of bees? Because it's toxic to one species doesn't mean it's toxic to bees.

Sure. Biodiversity. Irresponsible to recommend roundup.

All it takes is a bit of elbow grease but sure use roundup rather am sure you know exactly what species of pollinators you have in your yard and an exact idea of you ground water table.
