Tata Exec To Lead Sno

Good to see that they're slowly starting to build up momentum... can't wait for the happy day when I can get rid of my Teklom line...

A word of warning to all the people though : make sure you've paid your teklom account in full, and have all the paperwork at hand, including proof from teklom that your account is indeed paid up in full and closed...

I can just see the guy introducing himself

"Hello - I'm running SNOT. "

yeah - that works :o

In a media statement following the issue of the licence, the SNO said it would begin to offer services from the second half of 2006.
The date just keeps on moving to later and later.

Good things come to those that wait? And waiting as long as we have for the SNO this should be bloody good i reckon

Personally have high hopes - tata being an indian company and all - would bring a different persective and a different way of doing business.

Article is very interesting:
Tata, through its Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) subsidiary, holds a controlling 26% stake in SNO Telecommunications. Other shareholders include Transtel, Eskom and empowerment company Nexus

but - me fears their stake is too small to make any real difference - though think neither eskom or transtel have any love of telkom.

Pandey has more than 20 years’ experience in the telecom industry, which could prove invaluable for the second operator. In November 2003 he was appointed president of India’s Tata Teleservices, tasked with expanding the company’s geographic presence in that country. Pandey was also previously CEO of Tata Internet Services

Would think infrastructure as hard if not harder to do in India - looks good!

Tata Teleservices provides telephony and Internet access to Indian consumers through the Tata Indicom brand. It operates cellular, fixed-line and fixed-wireless networks and boasts 4,6m customers in 1400 towns in India.

More penetration than telkom! Maybe not - but not a clueless company!

The company claims to be the market leader in fixed wireless telephony, with 2,7m such customers. Because of the enormous cost involved in building a fixed-line network, it’s likely SNO Telecommunications will rely heavily on fixed-wireless technologies.

Got to be lots of answers in this - expect wireless to take off? Maybe put up towers alongside vodacom! :D

Live in hope. All these players look like serious people - hopefully with no time for telkom! :)

I have a question......

WHAT IS THEIR WEB SITE!!!

wtf.

i mean i have heard so much about them but havent seen anything about them....someone plz provide me information.

WHAT IS THEIR WEB SITE!!!
Well - just a little look (and I did find a massive site a few days ago - posted somewhere on this forum)... but a little look yields: www.tata.com

...which is a truly massive company - they do mention this - on their main site - and - I can't believe our luck - that we seem to have a really good partner to kicks telkoms butt - this off tata.com - VSNL, a subsidiary company:

VSNL also closed the year out well.
The company acquired Tyco Global Network, which will make it one of the world's largest providers of submarine cable bandwidth.
VSNL agreed to acquire Teleglobe International Holdings, a leading provider of wholesale voice, data, IP and mobile signaling services.
VSNL was awarded a 26-per cent stake in South African telecom operator SNO.

Profile
VSNL, India's leading international telecommunications service provider, was incorporated on March 19, 1986, to take over the activities of the erstwhile Overseas Communication Services (OCS) with effect from April 1, 1986. Backed by over 25 years of overseas communications experience, the company today operates a network of 32 earth stations, 12 international voice gateways, six operational submarine cable systems and 22 internet ‘points-of-presence’ to provide a range of basic and value-added voice and data services to corporate and retail customers in India. :)
