Hi guys,

Looking to get an opinion on a little problem I've had. The PM who works with the dev team didn't add the projects I've been working on, onto EPM before going to clients for two weeks (read as PM was offsite). Now during the two weeks I couldn't log time on my timesheet because of this. I asked the PM to add the projects but she could not access EPM over VPN for some reason and asked me to wait until PM she got back. I told my Dev lead about this and kept asking the PM if there was anyone who could assist.

Now the PM got back yesterday and added my projects, I completed my timesheets and sent them thrgh for approval. Now around 10pm last night I get a mail from the CFO telling me that I should always be doing my timesheets ontime as I haven't logged time. The CFO did CC my dev lead tho.

So do I :
a.) Send mail back, explaining the situation. Honestly.
b.) Let it be and get back to work lol
c.) Speak to my Dev lead?

Why do I want to do something : I just started and don't need red flags or anything of the sort being raised against me, if you get what I mean.

I vote option A but don't make it sound incriminating or accusatory against the PM.
Just straight up state that you always do them on time, but the projects hadn't been added and PM was offsite and unable to access EPM via VPN for 2 weeks.
Add that you did try everything you could to find a way to get your projects added but there was no way and you simply had to wait until PM got back and could access the system to add the projects.
CC your Dev on the response mail.

It's not "tattling" - its simple fact. The PM did screw up, and if anybody should be getting mails at 10pm complaining about stuff not done it should be the PM. You're just telling the truth, and if the CFO chooses to rant at the PM because of their mistake, then the PM should deal with it.

Just keep the tone light and relaxed and friendly, but explain all the facts without shouting "It wasn't my fault, blame the PM!". Rather focus on the "unfortunate nature" of the whole thing, like it wasn't a big deal.
