Interesting yet disturing read on Fin24.

This is the sore part...

There are only 5.3m taxpayers in the country and 1.2m of these pay 75% of all personal and company tax collected.

As matters stand, South Africa is already the country with the highest proportion of people depending on social grants.

Currently 13m or 26% of the population depend on these grants. In other words, each taxpayer is responsible for two people's social grants.

Do the writers of these articles just suck things out of their thumbs to suit their need?

"This is unsustainable for a country with the smallest number of taxpayers and the highest rate of taxation" he argues.

You could live in Benin! Even the "utopia" of Australia goes up to 45%...

Yes, but what do you get there in return for your taxes?

missing trees 'n forests and shrubs, but where else in the world do 3% of the population account for approx. 75% of all personal and company tax collected? :(

I'm supporting entire families I've never had the privilege of being mugged by :D

Didn't we just get a cut ? So they give us a 2 or 3 % cut then smack us with a 9% increase ? FFS...

Being screwed again - no wonder the poor masses keep voting for these idiots.

How much of the required funding will be lining their corrupt pockets?

Actually I am for this. I would rather pay another 9% or whatever than have to actually employ some of the laziest people on earth and then fight with the CCMA when I want to fire them. Rather just give them handouts and tell them to stay home.

They can kiss my ass on this one.

I already pay enough tax, and get very little back for it.

I think its about time that the actual tax payers get something back....

Best government schools? Best hospitals? Efficient police force? You get plenty back, stop moaning! :D

I'm all for an unemployment "grant" BUT it should only last for a set period of time, and if you cannot show that you're actively seeking employment then you get squat.
