TCL TVs

You're not understanding what Toxic is saying. You can have HDMI 2.1, but it doesn't mean you'll get all the features.
Especially that panel is a 60hz
The big clue is the 120hz game accelerator nonsense.
Which is also in the takealot description and on the website. View attachment 1757538
So you need a panel that does more than 120Hz. So this panel does not have a game accelerator that cope with 120Hz.
Confusion prevails.
New panel has 144Hz.

Game accelerator isn't a real thing :). But yes you need to have a 120hz panel to get 120hz

No, you need a panel that does 120hz natively if you want 120hz. This is not unfortunately a mandatory feature in HDMI 2.1.

Yeah, when you cut the price you cut the features.
When I moved to the UK I just wanted to get a TV and not one that cost too much. Got myself a Hisense (which isn't that bad) but the software is its weak point... Dec last year I bought a Fire Stick 4K Max because I couldnt handle Vidaa any more.
Later this year, once I have moved to a new place, I will probably buy an LG OLED.

why even bother with all of the stuff being used directly on the TV - the processors and ram on the TV just wont allow a good enough experience anyway - so IMHO just buy the TV as a screen and use a decent TV box which has good enough processing and ram to do the media playback functionality that you want - a Mi box S 2nd gen is only R1k (ZAR) nowadays and that will give you oodles of functionality and as long as the TV has enough HDMI ports and decent screen functionality it will absolutely do your job

I use the Hisense TV but i refuse to use that Vidaa crap O/S that it ships with - so i just use the TV as a screen and everything else is done by mi Box 2nd gen and the combo is pretty bulletproof for now - as soon as there is a paradigm shift in tech - all i need to do is buy the newest box that meets my needs and still use the TV as a screen - so no real need to even bother about the useless smart functionality built into most TVs - there are a moot point and mostly useless anyway because they wont even eventually run properly even if they work in the beginning

I thought this was interesting, TCL caught in a bit of a controversy.
First TCL questioned the validity of the report and then in a subsequent update told Tom's Guide the following
Update 9/13/2024: TCL explained to Tom's Guide that the TVs associated in these reports are not US-based models.

The analysis, which was first publicized on September 5 on etnews.com, concludes that TCL’s C755, C655, and C655 Pro QLED models do not possess quantum dots.

The analysis was commissioned by quantum dot producer Hansol Chemical and conducted by SGS and Intertek, two independent testing and certification agencies. The study searched for signs of indium and cadmium. Since no quantum dot producers can make these nanoscale particles without indium and cadmium, experts consider their absence inside a TV’s display proof that the TV doesn’t contain quantum dots.
TCL questioned the validity of the Hansol report, claiming that the method and accuracy weren’t sufficient to detect the exact content of cadmium. However, TCL’s evidence comes from an examination of its QD film supplies, while the Hansol report was created by tearing down actual TCL TVs.

Thoughts on this anyone?
I will have an Apple TV connected to it for everyday use but would use a console for gaming.

Will be fine

I bought a TCL 50" w/Google TV a couple years ago and I regret the purchase.
1. Extremely slow UI causing the TV to hang and apps just to close mid watching
2. Lack of updates to the TV ( Have not received one in just over 2 years )
The above are my main issues but not limited to just those

Model number, not all TCLs are the same, you get low, mid and high end models

I got a 55" from them a few years back - don't think it has ever received an update. If it wasn't for someone giving me an Apple TV for it I'd have put my fist through it by now.

Ah okay, that is an entry level model, still no excuse for bad performance, at this point rather get a TV box instead of using it's own OS.
Waiting on a good deal on a Apple TV, due to this being a bedroom TV im in no rush

Sitting with a 65" Hisense 65Q8600, itching for the 75" TV space.

Any thoughts on the C755, good amount of dimming zones, QLed, 144hz VRR and +-1300 Nits peaks, sounds good!
Enjoyed the idea of the Hisense U7N 75", then saw it has a IPS panel and not those deep blacks VA panel like the other sizes.
Both seem to fall into the same category?

EDIT, seems the US equivalent is the QM7, with a good rating.

Done some research on the TCL C755 (C805 in EU) and watching some reviews, it’s a good deal! For the amount of local dimming zones and mini led, it rivals the Hisense U7N.

The only reason i would consider it, it purely because Hisense at 75” uses a IPS panel, where you lose out on the deep dark blacks et c. Whereas the TCL still uses a VA panel.

In short, both should be adequate and both get nice deep blacks (except the 75” Hisense”) as well as bright for HDR content
Some mentioning that their return rate on the TCL were lower due to better quality checks on production line.
