TCL TVs

I mean this is a Samsung and LG are in the same price range as a 55" TCL C645 (which is a mid range TV)
This Samsung is entry level

Can't find the rting for the UR7300 but if the UR9000 doesn't get a great one?

Same price range as this Toshiba
Sure that is a really good price for the 65" model, so yeah won't necessarily get a better TV going Samsung or LG

Yeah, when you cut the price you cut the features.
When I moved to the UK I just wanted to get a TV and not one that cost too much. Got myself a Hisense (which isn't that bad) but the software is its weak point... Dec last year I bought a Fire Stick 4K Max because I couldnt handle Vidaa any more.
Later this year, once I have moved to a new place, I will probably buy an LG OLED.
I bought a cheap android stick because I couldn't handle the AndroidTV on my set. Then someone gave me three Apple TVs :)

Keep the firestick

Need to buy a "cheap" 42" TV and TCL are definitely one of the considerations seeing that they're actually a pretty massive global brand. This will be used as a secondary TV and the display quality is not going to be a major factor.

My reading of this thread is that like most non-premium models. the software is going to be pretty weak.
As such, best to get a fire stick.
But then this circles back - why pay for a premium Samsung/LG when the fire stick will solve most of the problems (especially if the TV display quality is not what I am buying the TV for).

So...should I actually buy the TCL if this is the case?

I bought a TCL LCD TV, but on the box 2.1 HDMI port.

Not found 2.1 HDMI port, took it back for refund.
I think SA has become the dumbing ground. For all types of TV's.
There is nothing that backs the model number.
Go check YouTube everyone has a different model, what you get in the USA not same here.
Make sure that it complies. What you get as end-user.

What do you define as hdmi 2.1?

That is requirement. To play PS5 or Xbox on TV at 60 or 120fps. At 3k
Default hdmi is 60fps while hdmi 2.1 runs at 120fps.
Bandwidth
So you can blame the hdmi forum for this as I understand it. Hdmi 2.1 doesn't mean what you think it does anymore, it includes the 2.0 spec and 2.1 features are optional.

I bought a 65" 4k TCL with the 120hz refresh. Unfortunately life is so busy at the moment it got turned on, connected to a PS5 for 10mins and i haven't used it in 3 weeks lol. But in the few minutes it was running, its a very nice TV...

Yes all the old one they are selling.

I think you're willfully misunderstanding my point.

The TCL TVs are accurate in calling the ports HDMI 2.1 since they meet the spec. They don't meet your understanding of the spec, which is a different issue.

This is the TV in question: https://www.takealot.com/tcl-43-p755-4k-hdr-smart-google-tv/PLID95654596

I will post my pics and findings.

Here you can see I'm using HDMI3, see what it is called.
The other ports show only HDMI, meaning HDMI 2.0
This TV has 3 HDMI ports.

From inside XBox X.

Then from TV it reports this.

It shows 60Hz and not 120Hz. If this was HDMI 2.1 yes it should show 120Hz at 3K.

I did return TV back where I bought it. Was not from Takealot.
I still stand by my point and not your TLC view.

Proof me wrong @ToxicBunny. I have given you proof and shown you, my pudding.

Lastly this is why I bought the TV. It states HDMI 2.1, which is not true.

You're not understanding what Toxic is saying. You can have HDMI 2.1, but it doesn't mean you'll get all the features.
Especially that panel is a 60hz
The big clue is the 120hz game accelerator nonsense.
Which is also in the takealot description and on the website. Screenshot_20240915_160956_takealot~2.jpg
