Don't always blame the learners... quite a few of their teachers should not be teaching!!

Many South African teachers cannot answer maths questions based on the curriculum one or two years above the grade they teach.

Only 53%, on average, of Grade 4 maths teachers answered a simple fraction question based on the Grade 6 curriculum correctly three years ago, a study has found.

Only 72%, on average, of Grade 5 maths teachers got the same question - 1/4 + 3/5 - right in 2009.
The study also found that the "overwhelming majority" of maths teachers avoid challenging topics - on average only 24% of topics in the maths curriculum was covered by Grades 4 and 5 teachers.

:wtf:

Don't children normally ask their parents for maths help when they get stuck at home? Don't the teachers still expect correct answers the next day?

That means parents need to remember maths they did not study how to teach. Then surely teachers should remember too.

Remember they failed 2 grades higher than they teach so they have textbooks with questions and answers and when the student answers they consult the text book.

17/20 and it can't be reduced any further ( forgot what the term is where you lower the fraction back to a common number but as 17 is a prime you can't )

Sad to see.

I would also fail that. My math sucks. I am just too lazy at it.

My wife works at an extra math club after school center and my kids all go there.\

Good enough for me.

Yes it is sad. My oldest daughter is in Grade 8 and the kids in the class often have to correct the teacher when she does sums on the board.

BTW 1+1 = 11? :p

When I was in high school we only had one dude correcting the teacher and he was chinese. Don't even know why he bothered coming to class as he was super sharp :D
