Pls can someone with tech know-how pls advise with my problem. About 8 days ago my 4mb line's bandwith dropped to that of +/- a 512 line. Both my upload and download speeds are now more or less the same:www.gam.co.za bandwith test:
Download Speed: 536 kbps (67 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 425 kbps (53.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Used to get +/- 250-300 KB transfer

Telkom Tech came out tested my line yesterday, exhanged routers, tested on both my pc's, phoned "technical help" themselves but could not find anything wrong. (The tech was polite and tried everthing within his means) Their own helpdesk "confirmed" that the settings in the exchange were correct. Now they signed off my fault 7CTK101009 which I rejected this morning via sms.

Please assist with advice? What can I tell them, where must they look? Any Telkom Tech/Ex Telkom Tech?:) Its killing me!
Thanks Ronnie

dude ask them to drop your line to 384Kbps and give it a day after that bump up to 4mb again just make sure they dont charge you for the downgrade or upgrade

My mate had this and that worked for him

I have this same problem, 4MB line was downloading fine at 400k+ for the first few days of the month, now I get a constant 50k no higher. Different accounts tried, same thing. Router says im syncing at 4096 kbps down and 640 kbps up, but my download speed doesnt even meet my upload at the moment.

Phone 0800 375 375 or 0800 500 200 and switch off your modem and ask them to reset your ADSL line...

Should it not improve, email Finlay Peake [email protected] and explain that your issue has not been resolved and that they have closed your case.

Regards

M

Thx for all the advice, will start from bottom up (Michael)and try each one, will report back, Ronnie

Happened to me as well, 4Mb line (sync at 4Mb) but downloads were capped at 512kb speeds. Just called 0800375375 and they reset the port (you need to turn off router while they do it). Took 5 minutes from when I called them to get it sorted.

Interesting results: !

The result of suggestions received:

Whatwhat: Reset the port, still the same Dowload & Upload the same

OMG:
on my 4meg:
Download Speed: 453 kbps (56.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 426 kbps (53.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

BUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when bringing down my line to 1meg:

Download Speed: 774 kbps (96.8 KB/sec transfer rate) (Nearly doubles 2 x upload!)
Upload Speed: 426 kbps (53.3 KB/sec transfer rate) ((The same as per 4meg)

What do I do next? We're getting somewhere!

Killerbe: Yes now that I think of it, hell of a thunderstorm hit Rustenburg CBD round 2 weeks back, my office is near the exchange and we had some good hits in town. Another thing, the line went up& down a/hours only the stabilise the mornings, just before I picked up the slow download. I didn't test bandwith, only checked it last week

Reopened the original fault, it was just signed off without any follow up (and without a option to sms to keep fault open). Said they had to escalate to higher level with a new fault ref.690CTK141009 My request is pls move me to another port on the DSLAM? The original tech suggested that they put me on a 2meg (paying 4mb an no problem in 2 years), speed stayed the same

retested my ports, stays the same speed??

4mb
Download Speed: 511 kbps (63.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 316 kbps (39.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

1mb
Download Speed: 489 kbps (61.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 424 kbps (53 KB/sec transfer rate)

Does the same help for when your international looks capped at around 70KB/s but local runs at full speed (400KB/s+)? I'm using Afrihost as my ISP.

It's normal for international to be a lot slower than local. Try using multiple download threads.

This is a local speed test, to JHB from RTB, I use to get round 400kbps transfer.

I requested escalation, so far there is an improvement, I can hear my router clicking This is now:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 1033 kbps (129.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 361 kbps (45.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
