Just bought the bundle today and started trying it out a few hours ago. At first I thought I was getting errors after not restarting enough. Every time I restarted it would detect new hardware.

Basically the modem can't stay solid cyan (the best connection status) for more than 10-20 seconds. It then goes blank and back to dark blue, then back to cyan. Even when it is on cyan, I cannot browse any websites, I get below 1kb/s upload and download speed.

I'm staying in the Ferndale (Randburg) area. Has anyone experienced these issues? I'm not sure what else to do, I don't have any other removable USB hardware connected or any other modems installed.

Need help, give more information about your OS. updates, software which came with the modem?

For now I see you need to read manual which comes with the modem. Not sure because I don't have such modem yet, but with other Huawei modems it is normal that the light is changing from blue to cyan and back to blue.

You seem to have problem of poor speed, this is what modem indicate with lights. Tell us your signal strenght, download MDMA, thats all for now.

Win7 64bit. Updates referring to?

Tried the software on the modem and from the website, neither seem to work. In help it says I'm on version 16.001.06.06.368

Surely it shouldn't keep changing colours? My signal strength is often around 20%, not sure why if I'm in the full coverage area? And I'm not sure what MDMA is.

@scoperzor.Looks like you not not adequately covered in your area. What does the coverege map on the CellC website say.

Hi Scoperzor,

Just to confirm that Ferndale Randbuirg is fully covered and I have tested in that area, the problem seems to be with your Windows 7, I can email you a Windows 7 hotfix driver if you like, just drop us a email on [email protected] and we will forward you the drivers.

Regards

Mail sent Cell_C, I do hope this works!

Cell C, please stick the driver download link up in the 'sticky section' of this forum with a short description of why some folks 'may' require it.
It will save some heartache for customers and less hassles for you.

It is normal behaviour for the E1820 as well, see here.

Ok so here is an update to this situation.

I am testing my modem on my work PC (Win XP SP3). My signal strength is still very poor (around 20%) and I'm now in Fourways. I have limited browsing ability (vs. no ability to browse at all at home), but download and upload speeds rarely get above 30-40kbps.

So while it works slightly better than at home, it is still terrible. Could this be a fault with the modem or are there still various hotfixes that need to be tried on Win XP?

Another update.

I am now getting much better signal strength after the network department sorted out a few things their side. So I've gone from +-15% to a stable 90%+. However, I still cannot browse any websites very quickly. The download and upload speeds shown on the Cell C program are still very slow, so it's taking about 1-2min to get enough data through to load a website (local and international).

Anyone else had this problem? I've changed the network search to manual and selected Cell C 2g/3g, as was advised by the Cell C support people, and I'm on WCDMA preferred.
