Techno-free World Cup slated

It's funny how the biggest noise for technology in soccer comes from non-soccer fans. Oh, and teams who can't even put their balls in the back of the net properly... :D

Because the winning teams are the ones that can afford to bribe the referees?

I'd like to see the same thing happen to rugby players who run straight into a clump of the opposition as soon as they get the ball.

Go AROUND, dumbass... ;-)

HTF is that even the same thing?! How can you compare cheating with playing the game?

Running straight into your opponents is playing the game? Okay...

Ah whatever. I'll stick to watching tennis. One umpire, eight line judges, hawkeye technology, tv replays, and most importantly, hot women in short dresses. Much better than watching 30 guys smashing into each other for eighty minutes... :p

Oh, and might I add, NO VUVUZELAS!

At least they dont cry about it.

Yes, they be manly 20th century men!

I'd cry if twenty guys piled on top of me. Anyone who enjoys that sort of thing and isn't a gay porn star is kinda creepy... ;-)

This is the year 2010... the first decade of the twenty first century is nearly over. We have had public television for nearly 70 years. Surely FIFA can join us in the twenty first century? I agree with the ID... it is a disgrace and has spoiled the world cup for a lot of fans.

For many of us this has been a great introduction to the world of soccer. This is the first time that many people have watched a full game or watched their own national team. And what do they find? An archaic and buggy system of refereeing that is out of the 1800s.

Seriously... just give the ref an earpiece and let him communicate with another ref off the pitch who is watching the screens.

If you wanna keep the game "classic" then let the players play barefoot with a pigskin ball.

If they stop the game for every little call like they do in rugby it wont flow and no one will watch. Exactly when do they review??? Look at the England goal in this way... Say England didn't score, German goal keeper throws the ball down the other end and Germany score. Now would it have been fair on the Germans to stop the game and review?? Stopping the game and reviewing would have clearly denied Germany the opportunity to attack, right???? Reviews like out of the question, the only thing I can see them introducing is some goal line tech like Ice Hockey, where if the puck crosses the line the siren blows. That is the only bit of Tech that soccer can actually benefit from, other than that it will slow the game down and make it less appealing to fans.

It's called drawing in the defense and breaking through the advantage line :)

Exactly. I was just about to post the same thing.

Totally offtopic, but if that one attacker can draw in 2 defenders, it's a gain for the attacking team. Also, by running straight, the attacker also straightens up the attacking lines.

Rugby has so much skill and tactics, you guys have no clue.

..and I cherish my ignorance! :p

But I think the point has been proven. I'll avoid criticising sports I don't understand and you can do the same. :)

Fine, keep watching your free-flowing, unfair game.

I prefer sports where cheating is punished.

Fair enough. I prefer sports which don't stop for ten minute breaks every five minutes...

Oh, and cricket. This makes me better than you and there's nothing you can do about it! Roar! :p
