Technology confusing real life with virtual reality, says Pope

He also Godwin'd himself rather pathetically in a speech during his little tea party in the UK:

Even in our own lifetime, we can recall how Britain and her leaders stood against a Nazi tyranny that wished to eradicate God from society and denied our common humanity to many, especially the Jews… As we reflect on the sobering lessons of the atheist extremism of the twentieth century, let us never forget how the exclusion of God, religion and virtue from public life leads ultimately to a truncated vision of man and of society… ~ Pope Whatzizname

I could link to a little song by Tim Minchin doing the rounds on YouTube, but that'll get me infracted. I don't think he is to be taken particularly seriously.

one could say that religion already gives you a sort of virtual reality and maybe even extreme athiesm...

The Vatican should just be bombed as far as I'm concerned. They reckon they are above the rule of law seeing how they speak for god.

Extreme Atheism? what? as opposed to being a little be atheist? (I thought if you advocated that you're an atheist, then your an atheist... no real degrees of atheism (it takes the acceptance that there's no god to qualify for the job :p) )

Anyways, Atheism is based on looking at things in an analytical manner... You don't accept the existence of god due to information you've been given... so you being critical to deduce there's no god (in your own beliefs of course). So Atheism would naturally allow you to distinguish from reality and virtual reality given you became an atheist due to critical thinking.

Blind faith (which would be what the majority of believers practice) requires you to dismiss anything that doesn't bond well with your beliefs... So if you think that Rogue in WoW is real, you've already been trained via religion to dismiss the arguments of others against your believes, so you'll believe it's real come hell or high water :p.

The pop is the religious worlds version of Julius Malema, he just kicks sleeping dogs, and makes rants about what ever he sees fit...

i'm discerning between logical and normal atheism VS 'blind' atheism. that's all, no huffy puffy about it. suppose i could have used a better word for it :o

Well, virtual reality is about as close as they're going to get to heaven.

If the pope has problems discerning reality from virtual reality he really should spend less time on mxit trying to pick up tweens and more time at the pulpit teaching responsible and safe sex.

Great term. Although I always think of myself as being "ultra orthodox" in my lack of belief, "extreme" will also do fine.
