Telecoms-for-poor chief suspended

So part of the money I spend on my telecoms goes to this 'project'... looks like it would be better spent subsidising the poor directly... what a waste.

"Financial Mismanagement" = Budget fell of the truck.

Seriously Im just waiting for a big black monolith to appear somewhere in the ground....

It sometimes amazes me on how much money is indeed spent to decide on how to make things more affordable. The two telecoms pricing colloquiums back in 2005 cost millions – with no effect and no follow through. Money wasted. The DoC however punted them as their initiative to bring down costs, and I am sure they were commended by Gov for a job well done.

i feel for USAASA - they have really tried to turn it around but it is not easy when the political master cannot be bothered to do her job and when she does deign to write some policy it is generally an unmitigated balls-up (see under U for USAL)

makes you want to say PUSANO

Looks to me like another ICASA - window dressing to make Telkom (government's cash cow) look like it's not to blame for high prices. Makes the government look like they're doing something (to the uninformed). I imagine when the pressure on, the staff move on... wonder just what ICASA staff turnover is actually like these days - esp. at the top.

Remember when providing rural access was part of Telkom's requirements for getting 5 years of market exclusivity after privatisation?

Neither does Telkom.
