Teleconverters

I hear you.

Speaking of prized lenses. I saw a 50mm f/1.0 L in a shop a while back. I still drool just thinking about it. The price tag was a bit out of my range though.
Hate to think how much that would cost.

I've never regretted not getting the f/2.8 or the f/2.8 IS. The f/4 is plenty good enough for my needs.

I was just thinking with my 16-35 and 70-200 plus the TC I'm pretty much covered (16-35, 32-70 (w/TC), 70-200, 140-400 (w/TC)) in the event I want to travel light.

Thread revival. . .

I finally had a good opportunity this weekend to put the Canon 2x through its paces on the 7D and 1Dmk3 with my 300mm f/2.8 and I'm well impressed with it.

Not using the 1DmkIII? Is that for more reach?
The 300mm + 2x TC on my 7D was perfect for the far wicket but it was a little too much for the near one. I've already cleared the photos from my laptop to make space but I'll post some of the 7D shots tomorrow.

EDIT - if I had a dime for every negative post I've read about poor image quality with the 2x it would have paid for the thing!

Maybe those complaining should try putting good glass in front of it :)
Quite possibly.

Then again they're possibly the same people who trashed the 1DMk3 without ever trying that either.

Or the ones who have nothing in their galleries but criticise other's pictures. I have to admit, I'm partial to a bit of troll feeding and flame throwing on the dpr forums when encountering people like that. Huge fun :)

mercurial, your nose is brown! :p

I'm just jealous of bwana. My pictures all seem to come out like nasty holiday pics instead of the great images I actually see through the lens. /* Mutter mutter.

As you can see in order to get a closer shot I'm either in need of a teleconverter, a new lens, or a boat . . . and I dont think the missus is going to okay a boat or a new lens for that matter.

Anyone have any experience with third party teleconverters like the ones made by Kenko or are the (higher priced) Canon the way to go?

I'm looking to fix a 2x to my f4 (I know - I'll lose AF but I'll live with that) 70-200.

Unreal.

bwana asked a question rather than answering ours ;)

Bwana, your pics are so awesome.
Thanks, the secret is to take a lot of photos and only post the good ones. :D

Here's a shot I took with the 7D and 300mm + 2x TC combo, it's only a screen shot but I think you can get an idea of the overall quality of the TC.

Haha :D

Indeed :) I haven't used my camera in ages. I need to get out and start using it again. Do you shoot everyday, bwana?

I try to shoot daily but weekends are my busiest time since that's when the matches are generally are on.
