Telefunken 42" plasma

Why is that Grim? I don't plan on having the computer on all the time (so burn-in wouldn't be a risk, if that's your reason), but only switch it on as a source for movies/series etc that I have in HD. Why do you think a plasma wouldn't work well with the PC?

In that case, connecting to a PC is 100% fine. You are correct about burn-in, which is a result of static images i.e. Start bar. Start bar won't display when you're in movies/series/pictures/games/etc.

I have most people suggesting to me to look at LCD's made by the more household name manufacturers. Why would the Samsung LCD be so superior (bearing in mind that by brief, subjective observation they seemed much of a muchness)? Is the downer on the Telefunken brand or the fact that it is a plasma screen?

Because the Samsung will have better internal components, image processing engines, etc.

Don't get LCD though. It doesn't suit your needs. Get plasma, Samsung PS42C430/C450. C450 has extra HDMI, anti-reflection coating, FM tuner, USB media player.

You can't go wrong. The amount of MyBb forumites who have bought these sets over the last 3 months (about 20) is testament to this fact.

And terrible for sport/SD TV.

I thinks its much of a much.
Wont use the term terrible.
The SONY model (i have a similar one) is very good (using a HD PVR though which looks better than the cheap SD DSD one).
Obv. fast motion is not great.
But HD (esp. Sport) is flippin awesome - almost like crystal display.
But for me - gaming is far superior and i rather have that superiority than Plasma's SD superiority.

Hey Postman, remember my Sammy woes, i mentioned its working again.
Problem is the black and whites (and sometimes other colours) sometimes goes a bit fuzzy green, blue or red.
Is this a sign the tube wont last long...

Yes SD TV via HD PVR is acceptable, but sport isn't. Plasma is still superior for both, and for less than the price of a 40" LCD you can get a 42" plasma.

Why is gaming superior on LCD?

Grim? Wasp? What you say.

Unlucky pal. Under warranty?

Having both I can safetly say the only word to use is terrible. Seriously.

With a SD non HD decoder, TV and sport on a cheaper (sub R15K) LCD is crap.

Gaming far superior on LCD? Really? Love to know where you heard / saw that.

Totally untrue.

Game on my 50" every single night, its absolute heaven.

But, if you have HD decoder, SD is good and HD stunning (though i have not seen HD on plasma to be honest - only SD). And fast moving content is liveable.

My impulsive b-in-law and i have tested this.
He bought 4 tv's (3 lcd's and 1 sammy plasma) to test. Though i loved the colours on the plasma, we both preferred the LG FHD LCD for the PS3 (maybe it depends on what game - we were playing Fifa 10).

Nope, 4 yrs old.
Will it last.

I know of a Sinotech plasma (again, one of the "older generation" plasmas, 5+ years old) that does the same. Fuzzy green/blue/red. But it's still going fine and is still decent for sport (it's in a bar ;)).

So he bought 4 Tv's just to test that? Must have cash to waste :p

As you say, I think it largely depends on the game you play, remember a small portion of PS3 games are full HD.

4 to test - chose LG LCD, returned the other 3 - as i said impulsive.
Went to the first store - bought Logik, then saw sammy plasma on sale,...
I was actually quite impressed with Sammy - think i will get one for the room as my 'faulty' Sammy LCD (connected to DSD) is not great to watch esp. now with the blacks and whites fuzzy.

I think the whole issue of gaming on Plasma and on LCD is mute. I game on my LCD, it's alright. I game on my plasma, it's brilliant. But it goes both ways. I do note that on COD:BO (PS3), the game plays preferably better on my plasma than my LCD. This may be due to the size, OR, due to the plasma handling the faster action better? There is minimal IR on my plasma, and this is only due to some long periods, waiting for a game in the lobby. But it's gone as quickly as i noticed it when the action starts.

Yeah, there is definitely a plus over the LCD with Hz.

I also get minimal IR, gone within seconds of either a cut scene or changing channels. It is seriously a non issue for me anymore.

A non-issue to me from the start. It's never bugged me for even a second. Yet, some people can't handle it. I had more of a shock and worry, when i had IR on my LCD. Granted, it vanished just as quick as my plasma, BUT IR on a LCD! You don't expect that.
