Hi there,

I would just like to get some opinions regarding the Telefunken 50" FULL HD Plasma TV that I am looking to buy. The price is not bad, and yes, I know Samsung and Sony is the better brands, but for R9999 do u think it would be a good buy? Any opinions/comments/reviews regarding this would GREATLY be appreciated!

I saw the ad too. Not sure how the quality is but that sounds like a stunning deal... Telefunken usually make good television sets.

My opinion - u have to go and see the TVs and compare them - which one speaks to u.
U can get 40" samsung 5 full hd for 10k (special).

Well I had a look at it, and it really doesn't look bad. The picture with normal dstv looks exactly the same as the normal signal DSTF on the Samsung 40" Series 5 Full HD's. And I doubt if I will be getting Mnet HD soon, so with that said, I guess the Telefunken is not a bad call?? It has the same warranty as the Sony and Samsung.

Just out of curiosity - where did you see this TV being advertised? Don't they have it in 40"/42"?

If you play games, LCD is a yes yes.
For anything else, depends on which u like.
Ask them to play dvds as well, maybe even HD content (at some point HD will become readily available and cheaper).
Check quality of pic, brightness (i beleive plasma is superoir) and smoothness.

1. It's not a Telefunken... it's a Chinese TV with a Telefunken badge.
2. The price is good.
3. Warranty has no bearing on quality.

I'd buy a smaller, quality set.

My father in law has this one... no issues so far.

Its a bit big for the room but a decent tv, I wouldn't get it without some sort of HD device though. When you go that big you can see every detail

I recall that Telefunken CRT TV's in the 80's were considered very good. I also wonder what their plasma TVs are like, but then again, the game has changed a lot since then. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a Chinese TV using the Telefunken brand.

But then, when I think of Telefunken nowadays, I think of their vintage microphones which are some of the most sought after vintage microphones in the world. Hard to believe 'eh?

Badge engineering...

I bet with a bit of searching you'll find that the model offered by Game/Makro is the same as a model made by Haier/TCL/Konka.

The telefunken brand is owned and handled by Nu-World Industries - locally

I would also believe that yes it is just a matter of a badge being added.
