Telegram voice calls is here!

How the heck do you make a call? I have the latest version installed on Android but I don't see voice calling mentioned anywhere in the app. Not in settings, not on a contact listing, not in a one-on-one chat (normal or secret) etc.

I know at least two of my contacts are also up to date, and nothing extra is available on their contact listing or in our chats. Have tried clearing cache, clearing the app & even rebooting.
 
Welp, that settles it. Time to delete Whatsapp and have Telegram calls with all 1 of my contacts who has the app.

Everyone who currently uses Telegram either primarily or exclusively started somewhere. I was the first of my friends and family to get Telegram - I joined with a few uni acquaintances out of curiosity. Now almost everyone I chat to, and all the people I chat to regularly, are on Telegram and from what I gather prefer it to WhatsApp.

You have to start somewhere. Imagine how different things would have been for Margaret van Wyk if she was on Telegram instead. Could have deleted the message for the group in a split second.

Ah missed that. Ffs why. Wish there was a beta channel in the Play Store like WhatsApp has.

There is a Beta channel you can do and that already has calling, but it seems with the main release they are releasing it region by region to make sure it goes smoothly?

So you updated it in the last 12 hours? It's there for me after updating a few minutes ago.

EDIT: No it isn't, I lie.
 
I installed Telegram now to see how many people I have in my contacts list that use it.

I counted a total of three. I counted another two times just to be sure, but the tally went unchanged.

Yeah, it's 2 for me. Most people just grin and frown at me when I mention it the first time. Some actually try it and never go over to it as a replacement for Whatsapp.

Even the wife only uses it as a backup. Whatsapp has the majority market share here, unfortunately, and will continue to have it for as long as they don't screw up majorly.

is that the amount of effort you are willing to spent to get people edumacated and up skilled to use a better product?

It will remain unchanged until you do something about it. As I mentioned above, I was the first among my friends and family and now most of us use Telegram primarily. It's easy to switch people to a superior platform.

How do you join the beta channel?
