Please can someone try call me? My username is the same as my forum username.
I have version 3.18.0(956), do I need the beta version first?

P2P, as the phone call connects, it first exchanges security keys before you are ready to go.

Mine seems to improve with each call. My activation call from bryn was a bit touch and go. Then the call to my mom to activate hers was better, but not perfect. Was a bit distorted. Call to my sister to activate hers now was pretty much perfect.

I found the same thing. Dodge quality initially, then suddenly really great. Since the first 2 or 3 calls the quality has been far superior to WhatsApp for me.

Telegram voice calls are enabled now in South Africa.
Upgraded the app and immediately can make calls.

I made first calls today, quality is good. It works fine on iPad, but hangs at times during ringing on the older device (iPhone 4, iOS7).

That's probably some time away. The demand for video calling is around zero. The most common request was voice calling, and now it's here. And they're updating the desktop client to support voice calls soon, which is amazing.

Telegram is doing perfectly just as they are.

Ja, I have to admit, I am not a fan of video calls.

I don't think I've ever made a video call in WhatsApp. Also not a fan. The point of the call is to communicate - a video feed is just a waste of data and makes me have to watch how I'm holding my phone and be concerned with how I'm making eye contact and visually responding to what is being said. Why add all that effort, and prevent yourself from multitasking.

I prefer the more meaningful updates that Telegram gets up to, like themes, unsending messages, pinned chats etc. It's nice not knowing what the next nifty feature will be and using them frequently.
