I have been having this issue since I moved into my new house. Whenever a telephone call comes in, I get disconnected from the internet, the router looses its sync. The router itself is absolutely fine as I tested it when I bought it at my old place. The line quality at my old house was definitely better than where I am now.

My current stats are as follows:

SNR - down 15dbs, up 11dbs.
Attenuation - 51dbs down, and 31 up.

Max attainable sync rate - 7800kbps down and 800kbps up.

All phones connected have a splitter/filter between the telephone jack and the telephone cord.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do, because if I get telkom out and they don't find a fault, then I will have to pay them the call out fee because they didn't do their job correctly in the first place :/

Thanks in advance

Are you using pots filters? Are they connected correctly?

maybe open the phone cable point where everything connects off and check that there is no cable crossing over each other....

Have you got more than one jack in your home and if so, are they all equipped with filters? Sorry if it's a stupid question (you say all your phones are connected), but the exact same thing happened to me because my phone in the kitchen wasn't connected to a filter.

Replace filters, I had a bad one doing exactly the same thing.

Otherwise, call Telkom and ask them to test the line. They should be able to pick up any faults on their side...

Hi guys, thanks for the responses. I have 3 telephone jacks, but only 2 phones. The third jack in the kitchen is unused. I have 2 splitters that worked fine at my old place and are new.

I will check the main connection to see if any wires are crossing. Haven't done that yet...

I had a similar problem. Every time the phone rang I lost sync. I had 2 telkom techs tell me that my filters are fine and could not find the problem. Eventually a 3rd techie came out and said there was a problem on one of the telephone poles outside. He would not tell me what specifically was wrong tho :/.

Before you call them out again, just tell them you recently replaced your filters so there must be a problem on the line. Worked for me :C

Try putting a third filter onto the one in the kitchen as well.

Also check to see if you dont have one of those alarm systems that run over the telephone. Those intercom systems that use the telephone also sometimes give problems.

Eveyone will tell you that the filter is working fine but my question is with the filter plugged in do you hear any static noise on the line. If so your filter is gone and needs to be replaced. Also if you do not have a phone plugged in your kitchen there is no need for a filter on it.

Not necessarily. It could just be a bad connection somewhere.
I had an issue with noise on my line, but after fiddling with all the connections, I managed to clear it up, and my problems went away.

We had a problem like this but with skype. If my wife was on a skype call then I could not access the web on my pc.

Can also maybe try to put 2 filters inline, though to be honest, I can run my ADSL line and telephone line without any filters, though the noise on the telephone line is quite excessive without the filter, i.e. I would not expect your line to drop if it was only the filters causing issues.

Hey guys, thanks for the assist. Unfortunately none of the above work.

I have even tried plugging the router directly into the telephone jack. It still drops. We don't even need to answer the phone. This is crazy.

If I didn't have to pay for the telephone line in addition to the adsl, I wouldn't. Bring on LLU :)

lol wayne.

Sounds like some dodgy extension wiring in the house to me. Or a faulty phone or filter. I would get Telkom out if you've checked the house wiring.

The router MUST be plugged in directly, without a filter.

that's not the worst of it, now I don't know if it's fixed or not and if it is how it got fixed.
