Telkom’s expansion backfires

What is down the line

In a situation like this, I would say stick to what you know, Provide good service at the right price and trade yourself out of the K*k.

The questions though are this.

What is telkoms core function. What sets them apart from everyone else.

Answer, They do not have one, and Nothing.

I see a slippery slope down the line, and to see what is at the end of the slope, look at the SABC.

What is required now is bravery and a long term vision
 
Once again the question is why did Telkom sell Voda? It was their crown Jewel.
 
Vodacom sale; "Please call me Battle"; 45+%; NYSE; Multi-Links; and ... and ... and ...

WOW, Reuben has a pretty impressive disaster sheet.
 
They have got a few million copper lines and a Wimax license. Surely they can do innovative things with this? Dropping prices to lure back some of those customers who have moved to HSDPA etc would be a good place to start?
 
What motivation did they have to list on the NYSE in the first place and who gave them the go-ahead to do that?
 
Have to agree with pkid. Surely with the position they are in they can kill any competition by merely making their broadband product cheaper and drawing more customers. Customer Service would also be advantages.

Also Vodacom, MTN don't force me to have a voice service if I am only interested in DATA. Give the customer what he wants.

Rule1: The customer is always right (also the customer is the most important person in your business)
Rule2: If the customers is wrong refer to rule 1.

Seriously if they can offer decent caps and decent speed at decent price surely the uptake would be higher. ADSL is unfortunately the superior product. Wireless cannot really compete on stability and latency. That should be their competitive edge at this point.

Problem is they left their upgrading etc to late..... should have though of less cow milking rather than breed some more cows.
 
@WoW - why did Voda and Tel_Con split - 1. Like so many Voda have had enough of Tel_con 2. Tel_con need the money - watch this space because they are going to dig themselves into an even deeper hole
 
If telkom had to collaps we'd be screwed. They are still our only almost complete back bone.

Yeah only way out is a better business model, the current one which says charge more if you don't make enough isn't working..

Although hearing that they are getting screwed up big time makes me happy.:)

Really? Ultimately it is your money and your communications that suffers.

I am so sick of these anti-telkom posts. I come across the word "raped" and I stop reading. If there is any telkom rep reading this forum I am sure s/he would do much the same. If there are telkom employee's reading these posts then it can only be demoralising to them which will have an impact on their work performance. In a way you are creating the very disaster you are observing and you have become a willing victim of it.

As said, a better business model which isn't based on a dream but on the realities as they exists now is what is required. How about applying one's mind to that?
 
Anyone backing Telscum should go for a psych consult.... They are getting back what they have been dishing out to the good people of SA all these years.

It's due to corporate Karma.... and it's a biatch.

Sorry I just do not agree with you there. What Telkom has done to the telecommunications industry was criminal and you want me to grant them amnesty? Woof woof, go bark up some other tree .....

Agreed 100% Telkom has not once thought about what they could do to help build the country. It's been extortion right from the get-go. After the Americans sold their shares they had the perfect opportunity as the SA telecoms monopoly to do some good for the country. However they chose to instead chase exorbitant profits, and the price they are paying and will pay for it as long as they exist, is no love or respect from their customers, who will be constantly looking for the first possible opportunity to bail out on them. That puts them on very shaky ground, and when Gov (aka ICASA) finally decides that the SA may get some real competition and they allow LLU, then hopefully a client centric company like WA or Axxess will take the lead. The day that happens spells the end for Telkom, and I think they better start realising it.
