Telkom’s unrivalled fixed line network

If I had a business that was protected by regulations from day one and state funded it'd also be unrivaled... Just saying.

Unrivalled in South Africa? The bar is not set very high.

It is also feck all good having an 'unrivalled network' if you can't provide reliable, affordable last mile access to consumers.

Well, give us the right price point and innovative packages and light up the goddamn thing! Just saying....

If Telkom have this type of fiber optic network, why are so many DSLAM/IMAX's congested across the country?

probably because the DSLAMs are congested - a bottleneck forms at the weakest point. Having fibre to an exchange and then having your breakout at xMbs means that the capacity of the DSLAM is xMbs rather than the yGbs of the fibre

You may smile or smirk Squire....reality is that - we haven't had a simple land line service in out area since 2008! Midrand - SA's fastest growing city! Ha! :crying:

Wow,

If I owned a fiber network like that. I would rush out and put up as many wireless towers as quickly as i can.
Then i would offer 10c per minute calls within my network for fixed wireless lines and 50c per minute to my mobiles and 80c at the current interconnect rates to other mobiles. Rather than losing customers i would prefer to sweat that network a little and build a huge client base. watch my profits grow :)
