I’ve been in contact with Telkom to ask them what’s been happening to my ADSL line. All they can give me is “We testing the line” (which has been off for a few days) but can’t tell me any more information, or how many days it’s going to be.

Sounds to me like this "testing" is more like switching off. They are going around shutting down ADSL, your area might be next. If you dont have a better alternative i really hope for your sake this isnt the case

seems like Telkom 1986 called

I really hope not.. They installed some fibre lines a few months ago, but still haven’t activated them or whatever, because we still can’t apply for Fibre but carry on asking us to review how satisfied we are on how they installed the lines.

there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel for you. If you get the chance to get on fiber dont hesitate! But until then, givem hell !

I’ve definitely tried they not replying on twitter no more but I’m gonna carry on calling, because they told me the fault has still only been logged and they not even looked into it yet.

Yep, wait another week and they will tell you they won't be repairing or replacing the line, please wait for fiber or sign up with LTE, that's their current way of doing things

Would they then terminate the contract?

The Call Centre meant they are monitoring the line.
Work = Talk & Monitor, if you can do both today, you working hard as can be.

I got one of the call centre assistants to explain how far they are with investigating the fault yesterday, and they still had the fault on internal and not external so there wasn’t even a technician assigned...
