Telkom 10 Mbps ADSL launch details

So if it is not a free upgrade but costs the same as the 4mb service, what would you call it? The big Q for me is what are the ISP going to do with the uncapped stuff and is telkom going to launch a better product range.
 
I get 2mbps on my 4mbps line.. Will an upgrade to 10mbps give me 5mbps or still leave me at 2mbps?
 
Well, what are the chances of 10Mb/s in Port Alfred? There is not even a high density of human beings, let alone 4Mb/s users. But I will be happy if the 4Mb/s rental drops to more reasonable levels.
 
But, most of the exchange switches cant sync at our current speeds? You think this is some semi-BS to try and keep investment interest? Sure you could replace a couple of exchanges, but all of them?
 
It is now official that Telkom will launch a 10 Mbps ADSL offerings in mid-August.

It is understood that, in the event of a separate 10 Mbps ADSL service, that the price may be the same as the current 4 Mbps service and that the 4 Mbps pricing may then be adjusted downwards. Moholi said that this decision will be made soon.

I just ordered a 4meg line for my apartment in Durban Metro--the telkom guy on the phone told me the following:

1. It will take 21 working days to get a live connection (if all goes well)
2. I can't do a self-install because "the line is a fibre-optic line" and a technician has to come out to get me connected to the exchange
3. it will cost me R500 once-off for this install?

he refused to disclose if this line will be upgraded (automatically) to a higher speed than 4megs.

Firstly, is this guy taking me for a ride? or is this what is going to happen from now on in Metro's? fibre-optic? is this FTTH by telkom?

Well let me see what happens will let you know how it pans out!

He is taking you for a ride. It has nothing to do with fibre, as it is ADSL which is copper dependant. You should be able to do a self-install (is there is an existing cable) without the installation fee.

I had to get the Telkom guys in - my line was ISDN (many moons ago) on a fibre exchange so self install was not possible. At the end of the day I was never charged for the Tech to come out... LOL

The R 500 is about right if they bill you...
