Telkom 20Mbps, 40Mbps VDSL here next week

How many people can actually access the 20 and 40Mbps at the moment?

The telkom tool seems confused - says what I'm on and max I can get is 4mbps, when I've been on 10mb for the last 6 months..

Yay for the 0.0001% of ADSL users that will actually benefit from this!

What is the point? Telkom won't progress pass that footprint.

Just look at 10mbps it has been many many years and still only about 10% of the subscriber base have 10mbps DSL.....

Not holding my breath at all, I might see 40mbps by the I am 50, and at that stage we would have progressed passed 40mbps....

Clearly the real hope with this is that the well priced higher speeds leads to a reduction in the price of the lower speeds. 40Mbps is a bit of a pipe dream for most of us for now, but cheaper 4Mbps would be rather fantastic.

Agreed, I'd probably settle for say 10Mbps should they eventually have VDSL rolled our nationally

What is the pricing for 20/40mb? (Not data, just the line)

What are the upload speeds?

Where is the best place to get a VDSL router? (Price?)

"The new higher speed VDSL services are a result of the network upgrade that Telkom completed in the pilot areas consisting of 53 street distribution cabinet (SDC) sites in five exchange areas."

Wow, congratulations. I guess with these five exchanges allowing 20-40Mbps they're now allowed to plaster their marketing crap all over the place.

I can't remember the exact numbers but around R500 to R600 for VDSL line rental.

EDIT//

Here we go:

Telkom Wholesale is planning to launch their DSL Up to 20Mbps and DSL Up to 40Mbps on 4 March 2013, with retail prices emerging of around R480 for a 20Mbps connection and R650 for a 40Mbps service.

TERRIBLY Confused !

A confused tool at Telkom... sounds about right
Confused "Tool"
or
Confused "Fool"

Telkom SA Limited
Your exchange supports ADSL
Maximum speed available in your area is 1Mbps
Your current product speed is : 2Mbps

Interested in a higher DSL speed?

Please note: The provision of Telkom's ADSL service is subject to network availability, distance, copper quality and line sync speed limitations. ADSL is a best-effort service.

i am on the benmore gardens exchange and struggle to get a good stable connection at 2 Mbps!
