Telkom 40Mbps and 20Mbps launch areas

where can i find out if my area is supported?
 
I'm moving to durbanville. the seem to ALWAYS be first in line for speed upgrades

Telkom has begun rolling out 3,700 multi-service access nodes (MSANs) that will replace 2,700 older generation cabinets and add another 1,000 to their number.

Hmmmm...3700 to do and how many installed so far?What is the target date(time frame) for this network upgrade?
 
Well I can confirm that the exchange near my house (Sunset beach - Cape town) was upgraded to an MSAN when the trials started. Of course we weren't part of the trials xD

That is old news, and my guess is there is no time frame. The last time they tried they failed, we are still waiting for 10mbps after 4-5 years.

The company further confirmed that there will be a tracker where users can check whether their exchange is 20Mbps and 40Mbps enabled.

And ? There is a tracker for the 10mbps upgrades as well, look how much good that has done.

All in all it is quite disappointing that the launch is basically a non-event. No additional sites added.

Great,no news then, cause I vaguely remember these trial sites being mentioned sometime last year,just was not too sure about the time frame for the roll-out. Aren't you a bit curious as to how many of these MSAN cabinets have been installed so far considering the 3700+ that are planned(I understand it's still early days).

I think because we expected a list of some sort. We know what areas surround the trial areas, but the title implies a bit more precision.

Parkmore is next to Benmore and uses the Benmore exchange, but will Parkmore users have VDSL in March?

Isn't saying "The initial launch areas for VDSL will be those areas where we installed and tested VDSL" a tad obvious, even for Telkom ?
 
I would LOVE a damn geographical map detailing which areas of Durbanville...

I live in Pinehurst security Estate which is "technically" in Durbanville...but still on the outskirts. So how do you check this?

We are working in that, but to date the best we have is what Telkom provided.

and then only says the following:
A spokesperson for Telkom said that the commercial launch of its 20Mbps and 40Mbps VDSL products in March 2013 will initially be in the same regions as the VDSL pilot areas, namely around the 52 upgraded street distribution cabinets.

Telkom is currently piloting its high speed VDSL broadband service in Benmore Gardens, Fourways and Waterkloof in Gauteng; Durban North in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Durbanville in the Western Cape.

52 street cabinets surely cover more than 5 suburbs?

A list of the areas where the 52 new cabinets are would be good.
 
Cant wait for this. Missed out on the trial and I should be able to get the 40Mbps. I'm less the 100M away from one the MSANs.
