Telkom, ADSL and the 8ta challenge

Did he sign into a 24 month contract for his ADSL that he couldn't cancel ADSL without cancelling his line ?

im glad telkom's also wiping its arse with the CEO's of multi billion rand companies... at least their crap is universal.

Do we really have to read 2 articles a day about this moron? Enough, please! We're sick of listening to AKC babble and babble and babble on.

Bring Lars back!

Half of his comments don't make sense. If he doesn't know whether 8ta will succeed and there is space for only 3 players this means that Cell C is on the chopping block.

I think we can assume that he thinks 8ta will have a very hard time to make it. Vodacom and MTN are going strong, and he is planning to grow Cell C to a large player. 8ta will be the loser if Knott-Craig succeeds.

Most of 8ta's gains are from VC/MTN churn... except on the data side where they wrested customers from all 3 competitors. AKC needs to catch up pretty fast if he wants to get back into the game!

I'm pretty sure AKC has got it all wrong. IMHO 8ta is cell C's biggest competitor. Both cannot compete with MTN or VC and while they may eventually pull a few % of subs from these two, they will inevitably fight each other in the mobile space.

That said, if one of them pumps out a live LTE network in the next 18months this could change drastically.

The only company with the spare spectrum to do this properly is WBS....and well, I have my doubts about them. Untill ICASA gets its act together...LTE could very well be a pipe dream for now in this country.

I heard Lars misappropriated company benefits and was requested to leave.

Ja, I think AKC is going for 25% makret share of articles published on MyBB...

But he raises a good point on Telkom's true ability to compete in the mobile space - if they can't do ADSL and other fixed line stuff which is their core business and competency, how the hell do they expect to compete in the mobile market? It is not like 8ta are going to be doing anything other than make a massive loss for Telkom (and thus further reduce the funds Telkom has to roll out a next generation fixed line network) anytime soon.

What was the 8ta operating loss again? How many exchanges could have been upgraded/FTTx installed/faster core transmission equipment bought for that amount of money?
