Hi Guys

Does anyone know which number to call to ask telkom to bump your line from 4 to 10mbps.

We have 10mb in the area and according to telkom man we just need to phone them. oO

Thanks.

Yup, 10210 and sit through the multiple menu options, and more options and more options ....

10210 is the number. If you are on any of the uncapped all-in-one packages from MWEB, then you're screwed, like me.

MWEB refuse to upgrade just the line to 10mbps (so that I can use a capped account from another ISP to utilize the full 10mbps speed), and leave the data package at 4mbps uncapped, even though the upgrade to 10mbps costs them nothing, except a happy customer. They also refuse to upgrade the line to 10mbps and move me onto a capped package.

So if you migrated your ADSL line to MWEB, then the only way to get 10mbps, is to upgrade to a 10mbps uncapped all-in-one account at a mind-blowing ridiculous price of R2359 per month. Either that or cancel your MWEB account, which requires a 1 calendar month notice. I sent mines through yesterday. Will only be able to appreciate the speed of 10mbps from the 1 June onwards, even though Telkom says I can have it.

Bottom line: DON'T MIGRATE YOUR ADSL LINE.

my line is through isat and they do my line only. very happy with them and they one of the cheaper options.

Hi Guys,
My exchange is showing :
ADSL Max Speed: 4096Kbps
10Mbps Enabled: Yes
is this means I can phone 10210 now and request an upgrade from 4 to 10m??
or 4mbps is the max I can get?
I am on WATERKLOOF Exchange.

Nope exchange being enabled doesnt mean your lines card is enabled for higher than 4 meg

post your router stats for Attenuation and SNR Margin

Thank you for your reply,
I just phoned 10210, the telkom guy told me that I cant upgrade at moment...
I really dont understand why...

I check my D-link modem and shows the following...
SNR Margin (dB): 25.8 20.0
Attenuation (dB): 11.0 3.5
Output Power (dBm): 12.4 9.1
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 10112 1092
Rate (Kbps): 4096 512
K (number of bytes in DMT frame): 129 17
R (number of check bytes in RS code word): 0 0
S (RS code word size in DMT frame): 1 1
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Delay (msec): 0 0

I should be able to upgrade to 10, right?
or I just talk with the wrong person?

Maybe u connecting on g.dmt which means ur exchange doesn't support 10mb or ur on adsl2+ and they are lying to you

But honestly last the new msan in waterkloof turned on! So it is possible to get upto 40mb+ now

The exchange can handle 10mb but the area you are in has a maximum of 4mb

I checked my exchange from http://broadbandstats.co.za/search/phone/
and indicated that I am on WATERKLOOF (TWKF) Exchange.

maybe Nimz is right about The exchange can handle 10mb but the area you are in has a maximum of 4mb ...
but I just dont understand the reason why exchange can support 10mbps but my area cant...

It depends on how far you are from the DSLAM in the exchange as well as the condition of your copper connection back to the exchange.

Like I said earlier its cause your card your line connects to is outdated and old and needs to be upgraded first before you can get 10 megs.

This means a Telkom technician has to go to the UMC box (white box) in your area and replace the card with a card with is new and compatible then you can upgrade.

This is what the Telkom technician said who does the UMC box down the road, when he replaced my faulty card so having a 10 meg enabled exchange means nothing cause even mine is 10 meg enabled and I know people with that line speed, but on a different UMC box yet same exchange.
