Hi Guys.

So Telkom told me many months ago that the infrastructure needed in the complex for telephone lines was not there.

I believe they need authorisation from the body corporate to install what ever is needed.

Has anyone been in the same situation and managed to get a line installed? I'm also curious as to what the "infrastructure" they are referring to actually is?

Tried the same thing of phoning telkom and got the same "infrastructure needed in the complex ".
However they did not say that they need authorisation from the body corporate, they just said i must ask again in march.

going to follow this thread.

Hi there

I had the same issue in the complex I live in. What Telkom termed 'infrastructure' was the piping leading from their boxes into the actual house. It seems the builders of most newer complexes don't put this piping in. In my case I had to get someone to dig up the road and half my garden to get the piping in.

The really 'funny' part of all this is that I waited for 4 years and went into the Telkom shop on a monthly basis to find out what was happening and got absolutely no joy (as is to be expected). Then a friend left her cellphone on my desk and Telkom phoned her random number offering a 'special'. I agreed to it and within 4 months the line was installed. Haven't ever heard a squeak form them regarding my original application.

Good luck!

If the body corporate does not permit overhead lines (poles etc) to the individual units they, the body corporate, have to organise & pay for some other form of access to the units that Telkom can use for their cables. Don't hold your breath.

Conduits & cabling inside a complex the body corporate must provide, if there is none then Telkom cannot do anything.

You need to speak to your body corporate and not Telkom.

Developers simply don't bother to install the required infrastructure when they build places.

Thanks for all your replies.

So, as i see it there are two options. Over head cables or conduits running underground.

We are in communication with the body corporate. Hopefully they will agree to one of the options.

It is extremely frustrating that the developers don't put in something so common. They are all in such a rush to get the buildings up and sold that good craftsmanship and common decency has been removed from the equation altogether.
