Telkom ADSL Line and Closer

Quick question for those in the know.

I was under the impression that telkom did away with having to pay for a telephone line and ADSL.And that you could get only ADSL if you wanted.

I phoned Telkom to apply for a ADSL line and they say I've got to get a phone line too.

Is this correct?

No, you don't need to get a phone line. They just recommend you get one in case you need to phone a friend. Actually no, wait... you have to get a phone line.

Yes, that is correct. You can't have Telkom ADSL without a telephone line. You don't for one moment think that Telkom is going to give up that cash cow, do you?

Very strange some how I was under the impression that they had slaughtered that cow.

Yes, I remember that too...You could apply for ADSL line one. Wonder why they changed...so...why don't they make it compulsory for your to take ADSL should you apply for a normal line if your exchange supports ADSL?
