Hi All,

Maybe someone here can assist. To cut the story short here is the details.

1) Line died 13th April
2) Escalated to telkom who set me profile speed down from 10meg to 4meg to help try resolve the issue
3) Turned out to be my router was faulty ( Netgear 834GT )

At this point i'd like to indicate i've been syncing at 13.6Mb for the last 2 months

4) Bought a Netgear DGN2200
5) Phoned telkom to increase my profile back to 10 meg which they said they did

My line is now only syncing at 6meg exactly and 635kb upload. Prior to which i had 1meg upload.

I phoned telkom to get told, my exchange supports max of 6 meg and there is nothing they can do to sync at a higher speed because the exchange is still being upgraded !!!!

I DONT UNDERSTAND ! ? Anyone got any ideas ? I connect to pinetown 1 exchange

To be honest nobody understands where Telkom is concerned.

I was 'downgraded' to 2mpbs despite being able to sync at 6mbps before a cable break in Jan. Most days I don't even get 1mbps, I'm on my 7th fault ticket with Telkom and my overall ADSL experience has dropped from a totally satisfied 10+ to somewhere between 1 and 2. Currently I'm trying Telkom to monitor my speeds as I'm going to log a dispute for them to reimburse me as I'm not getting the service that I pay for.

What can you do about it? Nothing .. Telkom's the monopoly.

Well I also got the same issue, posted my problem here:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/422374-Telkom-Fault-Reporting

I got a call from Telkom yesterday, the technician said that they have monitored the line and that there is nothing wrong. Apparently there can be 1000's of things that impact my speed (then he listed all the obvious ones) and told me that Telkom only guarantee UP TO 4mb. He stated that Telkom will not refund me as my max d/l speed atm is about 220kb/s and that falls within my 4mb line (no paid 2mb line price) so there is nothing that they can do for me.

I did insist that they send a technician out to me however so lets see...

My line also use to sync at 6Mbps and after Telkom broke it, and it took me three weeks to get it back up it only syncs at 4Mbps now. This is why the Telkom beast's shares are worth nothing and they are one of the most hated companies in SA.

I've been logging my own speedtest results that you can see a sample of here http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...r-connection?p=7882377&viewfull=1#post7882377

I pay Telkom for a 4mbps service and they deliver less than the 1mpbs service they also offer, how it that not an overcharging issue? If they give me that line I'm writing to Icasa and the minister of comms.

If they don't do anything I'm thinking of ordering a seperate second line for the house, see if that one performs better then cancel the old one. Anyone done that successfully?

Count yourself lucky I cannot sync at more than 2mbps. Worse is nothing works as it should check my avg speeds in the above thread.

Most hated at the moment must be Sanral, second would be Telkom. This is the ANC's gift to South Africa.
