Telkom ADSL pricing surprise

Additionally what has Telkom done that justifies the increase? They increased a clock speed.
The ISP has to provide/pay for additional bandwidth - There is no justification for an increase by Telkom.

Then they try to hide it by making the ISP absorb the cost - how devious.

Switch to 8.ta now and save (and make Telkom loose more)

Besides upgrading all the dslams and laying fibre to the exchanges so there's enough back-haul to accomodate the extra speed the entry level guys will now get.

Because the owners of Telkom are so stupid they'd cut off their noses to spite their faces. Obviously the investment in Nigeria was politically motivated and lined quite a few pockets - Just like the arms deal and the bargain discount sale of our strategic reserves of petrol. And I still remember the official stance the ANC took that internet is only for rich white people so not deserving of priority attention.

Things change so fast these days its easy to forget where we came from.

It will get better, but one can't help but wonder how long it will take to fix it all again.
 
What's the bet that Telkom will justify as follows:

We are providing a free migration from 384 to 1024.

The price of 1024 is going to be increased by R35​

Telkom's Chinese maths rears it head once again.
 
If it wasn't for online gaming I would have moved to a 3G connection ages ago.
Telkom are completely missing the point. They are missing the browsing and e-mail only crowd. Taking into account line rental, ADSL Rental amd then ISP cost it is almost double the price of a 3G connection.

Keep in mind we are talking normal usage here and not uncapped Internet.

It makes no sense to up the price of the connection every time you up the speed - think about the cost by the time 100 mb/sec becomes the norm - lots of speed and no ADSL clients left!

There was a price comparison of Telkom ADSL over the years recently on MyBB, can't find the article now, but ADSL started at 512k for R680/m inc. 3GB cap, now you can get a 4Mb/10Mb line for R413 excl Telkom Tax and they are boosting 384k to 1Mb for R10 extra a month.

I think this is the first time they've actually increased the price when doing a speed upgrades, (192k-384k,512k-1024k,4Mb-10Mb)

The upgrade from 384 kbps to 1 Mbps is probably the one that will put the most strain on Telkom's network. The majority of the subscriber base is on 384 kbps, so in order to increase the 384 kbps lines, they will need to upgrade the access network and the transport networks. I just hope that my IMAX's backhaul is sufficient to cater for all the 384 upgrades on it.

Not justifying their actions, just pointing out that complaining about a R10 increase is ridiculous at best when they've constantly reduced prices and given free speed upgrades in the past, yes we'd all love to see them reduce the prices by 50%+ but that's an unreasonable expectation.

I don't like Telkom, I never have and probably never will. But seriously people R10?
 
It's not the price that bothers people, it's the principle. I'm surprised you don't see that.

And if you think the only pockets being hit here are those of the ISPs, I'd think again.
