Telkom ADSL pricing surprise

I think THAT's the point of this increase being billed to the ISP's rather than directly to the customer. They wanna level the playing field a bit, with all these ISP's reselling the line for cheaper than Telkom (yah, how that's possible makes no sense to me either).

Of course, this would all be unnecessary if they'd stop double-billing us for the same piece of copper FFS!
Also, they could've been passing on or at least sharing the costs of many of these upgrades with the bigger ISP's if they'd allowed LLU to go ahead as planned, instead of doing all they could to block it. So no, R10 is not justifiable under any circumstances. As far as I'm concerned, they should be forced to carry the cost of upgrading infrastructure and the LLU process. After all the money they've stolen from us over the decades, it's the least they could do. If there's any company left after that expenditure, let them compete and try to survive on the same terms as everyone else.

Got a little carried away there, but taking it from behind from Telkom for all these years does build up some resentment.
 
Remember, if an ISP has 10 000 subscribers on these line speeds, that's an increase of R80 000 - R100 000 a month, which has to be carried by the ISP.
 
Graal any person who moans about an 8-10 rand charge for a 1 meg line should be put back on dial up. Bunch of bloody moaners. Nothing is ever good enough.

Geezuz it's 10 bucks to go from 384 to 1 meg and people are moaning about principles. Jump with joy. Telkom could have kept everyone on 384 and increased the price if they wanted to.

Wake up and realize how awesome it will be to go from 384 to 1 meg and only get charged an extra 10 bucks. Isp's should not absorb the cost, they should charge for it. People who don't wanna pay should just stay on slow 384. Cheap skates.

You're missing the point. I'm talking about those people who don't get a choice in the matter. Pay more or lose your ADSL.

R10 or R100, comes down to the same thing for those people.

If 10bucks is such a big issue for them, then fast adsl should be the last of their worries.
 
these DSL charges from telkom on top of the line rental is stupid in the first place.

if they had a proper maintenance contract with the DSLAM manufacturer, those DSL charges would not be needed.

i ASSUME the DSL charges from telkom is for maintenance of the DSLAM equipment, if and when it happens.

u dont get these extra charges in europe where i have been. at the moment it just seem telkom is getting a truck load of cash just for printing DSL Fastest on my bill every month.

Not only the DSLAM but also the entire backhaul network (optic fibre routes around the city and country)....
 
If Telkom were not so mind-bogglingly inefficient, then they might make a profit. Having bean-counters in charge of a technology company results in the highest earning engineers getting laid off, which looks good on the bottom line of the quarterly report, but helps not one bit in improving profitability in future
