Telkom ADSL speed upgrades going strong

Moholi said that installation of 53 multi-service access nodes (MSANs) has been completed

Is this now in total across the country or just for the 40Mbps trial? How long does it take to install an MSAN?

You forget the work required to get the fibre to the MSAN which is kind of a prerequisite. Then the municipality also needs to give permission etc, can you imagine what a pain it must be to try get through that bureaucracy in every site they are trying to put one down?

Keep it up Telkom. If you stop sulking about your loss in fixed line subscriber take-up, and instead focus on improving your national last-mile network like this, then the subscribers/customers will come in their numbers! Easy, ne'?

Since the upgrade, I now get less that 1meg line. Early morning I might push close to 2 meg....

so ja, I am paying more to my ISP, but my speeds are worse than before the upgrade....

And congestion? when will that be sorted out? been waiting 1 year now and nothing, nudda, zip!!

Since the upgrades my ADSL has become close to useless for large chunks of the day when I need it most.
I can't believe their project plan did not go like this:
Step 1: Upgrade exchange to handle larger volumes (install MSAN)
Step 2: If exchange can handle higher speeds then upgrade all the lines in that exchange.

It should be as simple as that right? They are making people wait for the 10mb lines, and yes although its a long wait, at least it is business as usual for all other customers in that exchange. But now because if the idiotic way that they did it everybody now sits with congested exchanges and are worse off than they were before the upgrades.

And so is exchange congestion.

Me too. ADSL's been getting progressively slower over the last 6 weeks or so. I might as well be on dial-up when it comes to downloading stuff. That'd be faster than what I currently get.

Telkom currently has close to 200,000 10Mbps ADSL services installed in the company’s ongoing 4Mbps DSL speed upgrades.
I don't believe that for a second :erm:

"Moholi said that installation of 53 multi-service access nodes (MSANs) has been completed, and that a high-speed broadband trial using this new network commenced in October."

Those numbers do not include the exchanges that will be cut over to MSANs a few have already been cut over.
