Telkom aims for better customer service

The reduction of telecommunications costs should benefit all South Africans and contribute positively to the economy,” said September.

No kidding, Mr September? Funny how they suddenly have a 'conscience', considering they've done bugger all in favour of all South Africans all these years. Now they want to play nice? They have to, but too late IMO.

While I might be inclined to give Reuben September a chance to make changes that benefit consumers, look what happened with Papi Moletsane and his pillars of BS, so Reuben September is going to have to be vastly different from Papi & Sizwe.

As far as I'm concerned, Telkodemonopolies' idea of aiming for better customer service, is to scope it out and launch a missile at 'better customer service'.

Telkom can Time Travel?

The company banks on its New Generation Network (NGN) to significantly enhance the customer experience. Telkom is now in the third year of building its NGN programme and according to September upgrading the Telkom network is vital if they are to keep abreast of international trends.
No wonder our telecoms environment is so backwards - we forget the past and continue to accept empty statements as fact that things will improve on their own.

For anyone who has forgotten, Papi Molotsane only announced Telkom's intention to spend R30bn on capex towards their NGN in June LAST YEAR - so how does 17 months equal 3 years??

Telkom to invest R30bn on capex

I would strongly suggest that Mr September not repeat the same mistakes that previous Telkom CEO's have done:
1. Do NOT blindly believe what those reporting below you tell you about the state of customer service delivery or network capacity.
2. Do NOT get blinded by greed and excessive bonuses and 'stakeholder' interests.
3. Do NOT forget Telkom already dug a pit so deep for itself that ONLY by making drastic POSITIVE and TRANSPARENT changes NOW based upon ACTUAL customer requirements (ie. LOW cost, IMPROVED and RELIABLE services as paid for, EFFICIENT customer contact / service points, especially after hours, etc.)

Anyone with common sense can tell you there's a major problem when you sell "up to 4mbps fastest DSL" but can only deliver a sustainable average throughput of 700kbps - 800kbps locally and 200kbps internationally yet still charge the full 4mbps pricing.

The proof is in the eating, not in the photoshop-edited glossy print you pay ad agencies for.

EDIT: OK, did some more digging and found the original announcement was in fact April 2006, so that gives Telkom an extra 2 months. Still 19 months (1.6 years) do not equal 3 years as was put in the article.
Telkom fixed line capex R30bn in next 5 yrs

The only improvement that would satisfy me would be an implosion of the beast!

ic you are way more generous then me. Consumers aren't going to get squat from Mr September apart from the Telkomese he has mastered in all his decades with the beast.

I am soooo looking forward to not listen to the same tune for 30 minutes, holding on for the only (I guess) call centre operator on the line.

Can't wait to only have to hold on for 20 minutes before speaking to a real human being </SARCASM>

If you're saying that 'the Telkodemonopolies inhouse Brainwashing is strong with this new CEO and cannot be undone after so many decades', then I agree.
