Do Premium seems like a reasonable offer if you're not a heavy downloader. I'm just hesitant about having Telkom as an ISP - the varying level of competence means that if you do want to cancel them as an ISP, you run the risk of having your ADSL access portion cancelled.

I moved to Telkom Premium (was then called Closer3 I think) about a year ago. My latency is lower than any other ISP I've been with (MWeb, IS and WebAfrica) and included in the package is 1000 minutes of local SA phone calls. Really a good proposition for a small business. Even their call centre help service has improved a lot over the last while - I am very impressed and saves a bundle every month. (Never thought I would say that about Telkom)

I miss the Telkom local cap after international is finished. Wish other ISPs would include local cap or increase it.

Telkom is getting very competitive now. That's a good thing!

Regarding Telkom as an ISP, they're actually pretty good. Been with them since I first got ADSL (7 odd years now) and have not really had any issues. All my issues (and there were a lot!), were exchange/backhaul related. I'm sure a lot of other people can say the same.

No. In reality telkom is getting anti-competitive, other ISP's cannot match those per GB prices without running at a loss, because of prohibitive telkom IPC charges amongst others.

Also webafrica really really really need to come up with something. As it stands they are just about the most expensive ISP with mediocre quality/service. As soon as things settle down I will definitely cancel my WA account and go for telkom's 20GB account.

You're more likely to get a roadmap of the moon than Telkom's plans to upgrade their exchanges. They keep everybody in the dark so they don't have to live up to expectations.

People (MyBB journalists incl.) keep forgetting that Afrihost give all their capped clients a free GB on top of their monthly package, so Afrihost is +1 in that regard and being voted the best ISP for 2011 contributes to the fact that they offer the best overall value for money.
