Telkom all-in-one ADSL pricing comparison

i get the best "special" deal from webafrica.... it's so good that it probably won't be matched by "regular" pricing any time soon, probably not within the next two years...
 
It would be cool if Telkom could give us two accounts, one for local, one for international...
 
I hate to poopoo Web Africa, since there are people there I respect and whom I know on a fundamental level are really wanting to produce the best Internet access out there, but the fact is that comparisons like these don't do them any favours.

WA consistently comes out as the most expensive provider (by a factor of 2 in certain cases), and while 4-5 years ago that was perhaps justifiable given the high service and quality levels and the control given to the consumer, the fact remains that competitors have since met and surpassed WA on many of these aspects, all while retaining lower pricing. Much of WA's service has seen only minor cosmetic updates over the years while others have made far greater strides and have arguably grown their business faster as a result.

WA's network rollout was unfortunately incredibly badly timed given the release of M-Web's uncapped shortly thereafter, what was supposed to be the thing that would take WA to the next level has turned out to be a bit of a white elephant (even if it was necessary). This will probably change given time, but it's obviously proven difficult. If WA had insight that M-Web would be releasing their product so soon after the rollout they would have still gone gone the self provision route, but the strategy surrounding the network would have differed.

It makes me sad, WA used to be the consumer darling, and these days they seem to have fallen into obscurity compared to some of the others out there. I really hope they can turn it around.
 
I have had telkom for many years and never had a problem ( more than 7 years )

Agreed. They've fallen behind and need a product that can shake things up. They're old news these days.

That would be awesome, I don't understand why they can't just separate local and international traffic point (assume the IPC system limits the other ISPs from separating local and international). In fact Telkom should really make the ADSL line portion include unlimited local bandwidth, considering that is effectively what we pay for it would really make more sense - at least until some sort of LLU option is sorted out where ISPs can differentiate service from the exchange themselves somehow.

In fact this would promote Telkom to try get traffic off their national grid as fast as possible, thus we would see more local peering being setup up. I realise it is more complicated than just flipping a switch, but honestly it is not very difficult and would really boost client uptake of their service. It is not like Telkom doesn't have the fibre across the country to make it happen (from a backhaul point of view).
 
"Do" pricing slowly becoming more tolerable. LLU and then it's all good.
 
If i can just point something out. They did not show in the 1MB comparison, Cybersmart's pricing. There package for 10GB is cheaper than all the ISP's mentioned at R347-00. And i have just moved from Telkom, cos i took full advantage of their 3 months free subscription. And boy am I glad i did. Nothing unusual to have no international browsing for 2 or 3 days at a time. And try and get thru to their helpdesk when you want to cancel a service. Took me 20 transfer and 4 days to get it right. So those who have a positive thing to say, I am not quite sure they have got it right. Yet or ever.
 
Can someone take the time and summarize monthly telkom costs for ADSL at 4Mbps for me (flippen Telkom site is so dense can't even see through that fog!):

Telkom line rental (voice): R139.97
Telkom ADSL line rental (4/10M): R413
Telkom ISP (data: 20GB Int+30GB Local):??
Telkom Closer (?): (What does this offer??)
TOTAL Cost to customer:

It will help me decide.
