I logged into the usage tracker and I see this message :

Friendly reminder: As you will not be capped on local bandwidth, we reserve the right to bill you for usage exceeding the allocated local bandwidth on promotion. The charge for local bandwidth is R25.55 per gig. This is with effect from 1 February 2008. To read more please visit our website www.telkomsa.net. Sorry but what the ****!?!? Isnt local supposed to be free? Charge you for what? Why dont you just get hard capped like before now there is extortion now, another great way for telkom to charge you for nothing I can see a few of us getting some nice suprise bills in the near future

When is this going to stop im so sick of it.

Nothing new. They are allowed to charge you R25 odd /GB after you have used the initial 'free' 10/30GB you get with your account.

Where did you see that Local bandwidth should be free?

Some undistorted regulator's intention? :p

Anyways, I'm sure it somewhere illegal if they don't warn you before they start charging you. Else its like a wallet digging death trap!

They do warn you. There it is in big red letters on the usage tracker. It's also on their website somewhere. Nothing illegal about it.

Was anyone actually billed for usage over and above the 'free' allocated amount last month? I know I went about 3 gig over and,on my latest account, have not been charged.

I wont test them though. With telkom you will never know what will happen!

Someone here who downloaded 180GB local wasn't billed... Although that might be due to the sometimes incorrect Telkom usage stats.

The thing is they say they reserve the right to charge. Not that they will charge everytime. So if they say they reserve the right to charge and they don't this month, does that mean they can still charge you at a later date? will they be consistent in how many month's grace they give you if you keep on going over the limit?

one could take one's chances as long as one is prepared to take the pain.

according to the tracker I have never used any local.
for the past week or so I have had a message each day to say I am capped, but in reality I am still working international at full speed.
basicaly an uncapped account 2 months in a row, I hope they dont fix this bug :)

That person was me... I wasn't billed... I've done 80GB this month, which is not as bad as 180GB... but I'm still hoping I don't get billed.

I've always been one to 'push the limits' and never been one to follow rules, I'm not about to start now ;)

HAVING SAID THAT; Should I get billed, my attitude my change just ever so slightly. :D

Just use mweb, unlimited free local bandwidth, at least for the time being...
