Recently observing Telkom technician at work.

He was busy re-connecting subscriber lines to a new main local loop cable.

He informs me that TELKOM have recently started on a major project to upgrade all local loop cable. YES YES -- that 8Mbs story is true !

He also informs me that Telkom have / are upgrading main exchange FIBRE trunking to 10Gbs.

Now if ONLY the MyBB "reporters" would actually go and TALK to the RIGHT people at TELKOM
( instead of just pumping out all this syndicated rubbish )
We might know what their plans are and what they are busy with.

[Here is a little tip -- everytime you see one of those white Telkom vans and a Telkom technician working away on something -- go and TALK to them.
You will be suprised what you can learn -- MORE -- than the nonsense dribbled out by the "Bosses" ]

Many people HAVE talked directly to Telkom, and some of the people at Telkom have confirmed what you have said, and others have denied it. It all depends on who you talk to on which day. Nobody can get a straight answer from them. Go to a different technician down the road and you are likely to get a completely different answer.

JA JA -- Obfuscation and confusion -- it is called "beating-the-competition"

You obviously not talking to the RIGHT people !

Try those guys you see on the TV ads -- the ones making sure everything is right for the 2009 SOCCER "trials" :D

For myself -- I am believing my eyes and ears :) ( and the NEW cable I touched and checked )

It would make sense as the next logical strategic move... but this is Telkom we are talking about.

I have seen them laying new cable a while ago. Its a thick red, fibre cable. Only seem them run it on one stretch of land though, so im not sure if they are re doing every cable they have.

as far as I know the different coloured fibre cables belong to different companies. Orange for Neotel, Blue for Telkom, Green for Vodacom, Purple for DFA, etc. Never seen a red one yet.

I think it varies but DFA lay 4 ducts at a time Blue, Green, Red and Brown (i cant remember offhand)

Orange I believe is generally Neotel.
Not sure about Telkom

Color of the pipe (duct) normally tells you what type of cable is inside... Telkom orange/red = optic fibre, green = copper.

Telkom network being upgraded to minimum 10Gb for FIFA 2010 world cup (FIFA broadcast specs) - bandwidth will be freed up afterwards. This is for national and local rings.

I can confirm this was talkoms lines. I always saw that white van near by, with the telkom contractors message on it.

How thick was the cable? Was it like one of those plastic sleeve thingies?

I couldn't care less if we were all stuck on 384kbps as long as we had bigger caps.

No sources:rolleyes: to confirm this.

No offense either I have missed it but I still have not seen any sources for your stories that includes landing station.

its was quite thick. At least 3 - 4 cm wide. Almost like an armored underground power cable. Most likely this cable is armored fiber.

Yes, this is a fibre cable... the tubing for copper cables is around 20 to 30 cm wide.

That technician was actually bunking work trying to have a beer and look busy, then when you busted him he told you what you wanted to hear lol :p

I saw a picture somewhere on the net, i think its for this new seacom thing, it had a ship in the backround and the cable running from it to the beach where okes were holding it. appearently this cable came out form mtinzini or something.

From what i remember the color of that cable was BLUE, does that mean its telkoms?
