Telkom capping lower and lower

If TelkomInternet now offer 3 gb + 3 gb free, why haven't they made a marketing scheme out of it yet?

bonobo_slr,

Are you the real deal? It's hard to believe that the Telkom beast actually care about us. If so, WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME!!!

Guess it is time to get 3 GB (which is apparently 6 GB?!) from the beast and keep my WebAfrica prepaid/rollover account as a backup. Hard to resist "free" stuff ...

According to the Telkom web site pricing it is R239 for 3 GB which is R40/GB if you get 6 GB vs R70/GB prepaid/rollover from WebAfrica.

Now, I for one, have no trouble doing 3 GB (without downloading media), so I know it will be used up with no lost "usage". My concern always is paying for a cap, not using it to the full, and having to pay the full amount for something I did not use.

That's why I'm currently using the WebAfrica's prepaid/rollover setup. But at R70/GB it hurts. Paying for 3 GB which gives you 6 GB at a similar price seems like I'd save a buck or two.

Does this make any sense or am I just used to being royally f^(#ed by the beast? I just hate giving them a cent more, but if that is the best deal, the beast wins?!

Are there any conditions worth noting with Telkom Internet? Can you cancel with short notice? Does it go on your phone bill, i.e. debit order?

Bonobo_slr, a question:

With reference to the passage quoted below which comes directly from my daily usage email from TelkomInternet, how can you place a specific number, i.e. 6GB, on the hard cap without waiting to see when the average usage exceeds the collective threshold?

As a TelkomInternet subscriber you have access to our unique threshold management service. This service operates as follows: should you exceed your initial individual service threshold, as above, you will automatically be transferred into our collective threshold option. This will enable you to stay online until such time that the average usage for all our subscribers reaches the collective service threshold.
Surely this average will only become apparent as the month progresses and will in fact change moment by moment?

What happens when new accounts are sold by TelkomInternet during the month and the collective threshold grows accordingly? This should immediately alter the average usage for all subscribers, i.e. it should drop. Does this mean that the cap will be removed until the average usage of all suscribers grows to meet the collective threshold once again? I ask with tongue-in-cheek ;)

Any elucidation will be much appreciated.

Perhaps you can start by explaining what exactly is meant by the term 'collective service threshold' and throw some numbers into the mix so we all know exactly where we stand.

Thanks in advance :)
