Telkom has a service at http://www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/checkADSL.htm

I've always used it to check possible line speeds before upgrading a customer's circuit.

Now when ever I run a check I get the following:

ADSL availability and maximum speed supported by your exchange cannot be determined at this stage. For residential services please contact the call centre on 10210, for business services please contact the call centre on 10217.

Getting the same error. Their service is probably down. Hopefully it will be temporary.

It's probably down. I also get the same where previously it worked

I've had that message since December last year, when I first started checking after they announced the (ha-ha) upgrades.

CheckDSL down again! Hoping they upgrading the DB with my number getting 20Mbps at least.

"The server is busy and cannot currently process
the request. Please try again later. " or cannot connect to server.

webmaster was prolly let go. inserted malware to melt the system. no interwebs for anyone eventually. get ready. ebola and Telkom. end of days. feel it ,it is here.

An alternative is to use Afrihost line order form.

Best bet is to PM the Telkom rep. That method of checking is not up-to-date. My exchange and line supports 20mbps, that tool says 10mbps, Telkom Call Center says 6mbps (although I'm running 20mbps), previous ISP support says 10mbps... Everyone says something different.

Yep. My exchange supports 10, and I am on 4mb, but the tool reports a max of 2mb for my area.

What you are saying is that there is no sure way to do an online check. To get accurate figures you need to contact someone in the know. That is wonderful.
