I got a call from Telkom last week offering me their Closer Option 4

Here is the deal:

CLOSER NOW BUNDLED WITH DSL ACCESS

For only R499 per month this plan (Cellular savings"billed per second),
Free calls - Callmore time (if calls kept under 1 hour), 1000 inclusive
minutes - Standard time) bundled with DSL up to 384kbps bringing you
fantastic savings!

Note: Home Line rental and Call Answer are included in the monthly
subscribtion of R499!

DSL rental is R245
Line Rental is about R95
Call Answer is about R10

Does it make it worth R149 for the "free calls"? Is the R245 dsl rental coming down anytime soon? Because I'm they sure wont reduce their R499 if the stand alone DSL rental price drops??!!

Coming from Telkom im a bit unsure about this "deal"...
what are your thoughts?

Well I did apply for my ADSL line last week (after they finally installed my telephone line). I rather keep it the way it is. Oh, I have Closer 2.

So that is

ADSL - R245
Closer 2 - R145 (including line rental and have free calls after 7pm (callmore times)
Dont really need 1000 minutes during the day.

So it will work me out just under R400.

Unless you have an business from home, I think a 1000 minutes is alot.

If it was to cell numbers aswell, that would be a whole different story! :D

Excluding, of course the R250 (if you go with Telkom 3GB option) Internet access fee.

I make almost no calls every month so there is no point in me doing it, but analyse your bill and make the call (pun intended).

If you use more than 200 odd of the 1000 minutes it is a good deal. Also if they reduce the dsl rental and it is no longer a good deal you can just convert back. BTW the current line rental is about R110 not R 95 (that is the amount excl VAT)

I will never make Telkom my ISP, Webafrica offers good value for money.

well we had closer 3 already so it saves R45. which can go to cell call costs

Which are also charged on a per second basis from the first second which can also amount to quite a substantial saving:)

cool think im gonna order it and give it a try for a month or so...

its not the "free" local calls thats nice, its the cellphone call costs that are still high :(

Well the interesting thing which is unTelkom like is that closer basically nullifies differences between local and national calls which is awesome.

search the forums for threads similar to this davep......theres tons of them with recommendations etc

Good deal

It is a good deal in SA today. Objectively, in relation to the offerings overseas in the UK and US, we are being raped after being held up at gun-point.

Always ask the ones offering the deal where the mask and gun are.

You will receive a blank stare, the unfortunates do not know exactly how they are participating in Internet connection rape.

Forgive them, for they know not what they do.

The same cannot be said for MT T and his synchopants. Do what the boss says or you go on extended gardening leave. (with full benefits and bonuses, of course)
