Sorry wasn't exactly sure where to ask this. I was just looking at the Telkom Closer option 2 product and was wondering if anybody could clear an issue up for me

Plan 2
For only R161 per month you get unlimited calls during Callmore time, up to a hour per call*. Included in this price is your line rental and Call Answer, your virtual answering facility. You also receive 30 FREE local minutes during Standard time for fixed line calls and 60 FREE local minutes for surfing during Callmore time.

This option also provides you with a convenient affordable rate for local and long distance calls during Standard time of 49c per minute. Calls will be billed per second with a minimum charge of 49c per call.

Internet dial-up calls (excluding the first 60 minutes), international calls, Premium rated calls ( 0860, 0861, 0862, 0865, 0866 & 0867) and calls to mobile numbers will be charged at normal rates. 60 FREE surfing minutes will apply to all Internet calls made during Callmore time, within the 0-50 km distance band (including 0860 calls, should your ISP make use of a ShareCall number). The Internet dial-up number must be registered with Telkom

Anyone care to explain what exactly that sentence in bold means. Is it free calls? As pointed out by a fellow forumite you'll notice FREE is capitals further down the paragraph but not here. Also there is no explanation of what the astrix represents on the page either

Yes the landline voice calls are all free, as long as they're under an hour in duration per call and made from 19h00 to 07h00. A work around for this is to just hang up and call back before you hit 60 minutes. This applies to all calls that start and terminate on the Telkom network (excluding Telkom Mobile) (i.e. doesn't apply when calling Neotel lines).

I think with Closer 3 and upwards it applies anytime and not just from 19h00 to 07h00

There's an "*" at the end there, but don't see what that means on the web page.

Your first 59m59s on those national off-peak calls are free. Thereafter you pay standard tariffs.

We have closer 4 (closer3+adsl). Quite worth the money if you plan on using that 1300 peak minutes. It's 30min per day.... it's actually quite a lot.

I have Closer 4, and use the 1300 free minutes from 7h00 to 19h00 weekdays, and the 1 hour free calls after 19h00 and on weekends.

That * just indicates, it is not to cellphones, internet dail up ect. like Dovi said.

0860 and 0861 numbers is covered on the 1300 free mins, not sure about 0861 numbers on the 60 free mins.

Thanks for the replies. You never know with Telkom so I wanted to make absolutely sure :)
