Hi

I'm a complete and utter noob where it concerns internet and data. I just subscribed to showmax for the first time and now I'm looking for a relatively affordable data package. Just for the kids to watch tv during the week and the odd movie night for my wife and me.

I'm not really sure how much data that would consume. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Well, at low settings showmax claims to use 300mb per hour, at high settings it claims to use 3gb per hour...

I'd look at Crystal Web capped account with 00:00 to 18:00 free time - should ensure that the kids don't blow your cap in week one :)

Another thing, I don't have a telephone line. So that would mean I would need a mobile line most probably.

You then need to go for broadband wireless. Telkom's current deal on uncapped data is R799.00 per month 24 month contract. It's only available for customers that has coverage on LTE. Just watch out for the "Acceptable Use Policy" on this contract. This policy is to make sure that user don't abuse the uncapped data usage. Allot of people are downloading 20gig movies and this congest the network.

Remember it all depends how much streaming you going to do. On high settings you are going to use allot of data.

if I was you, I will check with all the network providers to see what's the best deal out there.
