Telkom Do broadband

Hmm, I'm worried about the interference. Did this happen when the router was syncing with the telephone line?

Well I'm impressed with Telkom's service tbh. I ordered the package on tuesday and by the following monday I was connected to the internet! ADSL in 4 working days! :D

That sucks dude, but imagine how much more it'll suck if they release the 8Mb lines..

@Kaufies - the SAIX server is much better - even when I'm DL during the day I get full line speed (only 38.4, I know, but still, but than nothing).

I'm just guessing man. Because before I verified my ADSL account (self install) it sync'ed to 1024kbits. After verification it dropped to the 384kbits I was paying for.

I get a steady 38.9 KB/s on the SAIX newserver with cached stuff. Even uncached stuff works well after 6pm on weekdays.

Also, whereabouts roughly are you in the Durban area if you don't mind me asking? :D

They've improved in a lot of areas but people still get bad service occasionally. I think it's a lot to do with aging infrastructure.

Definitely. I waited two months for my business ADSL in 2007, for my home ADSL last year I waited less than a week iirc.

Aye. I heard many stories of how telkom sucks etc, but having my internet hooked up so fast, even faster than it took me to get my ADSL line in the UK was such a shock to me! :eek:

The only thing that sucks with Telkom is the hidden charges they zap from your bank account. :sick:

Haha, close to Sibaya then. Awesome awesome place to live. I wish I could be that near to the beach. If you work in Durban, traffric must be a b|itch i the morning though.

Haha my grandad back in the day used to walk to that beach in the mornings.
Took an hour to get there and an hour to get back. :D

Aye, I don't have a job yet but I do know how bad it is in the morning. Plus the construction works because of the new airport being built adds to the chaos! :D

I'd also like to throw my opinion wrt Telkom's service. It is much improved. The call centre is still a bit hit and miss for me but in all other areas it's great. I was upgraded to 4meg in less than a day, I logged a few tickets wrt my problems and a friendly, helpful techie came out within 48 hours. He diagnosed the problem after a trip to the exchange and I was downgraded to 384 instantly. Also there were no errors with billing. I was charged the same as previous months which was great!
 
384 to 512

All 384 lines will be bumped up to 512 this year 2010. Which month i dont know ?

You seem way more informed about this so I'll take your word for it. Haha, I haven't asked for anything, just regurgitating what I heard in the rumour mill:D.
 
I've been on telkom for almost 2 years now and have never had any problems with them, my internet has never been down in that time and has never disconnected only with the power failures...

I really hope so, and hope they would drop some of the prices or even maybe bring hoe an unlimited option.......
 
I also heard the 384kbit + 512kbits lines were being bumped to 1024kbits. It's because they want to improve the infrastructure aswell as removing the pricey 512kbit service.
