Telkom (don't) Do Broad Discount anymore

Hi All

Last month when looking at my Telkom account, I noticed that the amount of ±R49 discount that I used to receive monthly for having a Do Broadband 2 plan, had disappeared. I contacted them, and they explained that there had been a computer error, and the discount would appear in my next account. This month, the discount was missing again. I contacted 10210, and the operator told me that Telkom had done away with the discount, as it had increased the line speed to all the users. I asked where this notice had appeared, but she didn't know, and said she thinks it had appeared in the April account...which it did not. She also mentioned that quite a few people had phoned to complain about the matter.

Is this allowed? I know in Telkom's rule book, it will be seen as fair practise, but in the real world, is this legal?

This was discussed a while ago. Apparently they sent out emails, SMSs and put up a notice on their website.

That's a lie.
They did nothing of the sort.
One month the discount was either gone or reduced, reduced in my case.
 
Thanks Chevron, I saw no notification, no sms, no email. The lady this morning said that they were going to send out a notification in our accounts. I find it strange that the first call to 10210, they said it was a computer glitch..now they say its gone.

It was a promotion - promotions don't last forever.
 
I have been receiving a discount ever since I had ADSL..it wasn't much, but it was something. Its about 3 years ago.
 
I still get a R120.17 discount.
It says 25% discount.

Either way, no notification was sent.

Strange... Mine used to say that, but not anymore. Telkom told me over the phone that it was only a promotion when they offered it to me.
 
Thanks Electric for confirming that I wasn't going off my head. Being a Telkom customer, I study my account very carefully. Thanks to everyone else for contributing.
 
ok, just checked my bill....still shows 25% discount on my ADSL 10Mbits Line, but the R85 bucks saving on my uncapped has fallen away...-guess frees me up to dump Telkom ISP at anytime....

Is the discount on the ADSL line in any way linked to a long term contract with Telkom? My DO discount also disappeared at the end of Feb (and I got absolutely zero warning/correspondence about the R89/month hit) but maybe they offer other incentives?

I recall hearing about 25% discounts for longer contracts so curious to know if this is the source of the ongoing discounts.

So moved and had my service relocated to new address..-my discount fell away, called call centre, was advised to mail cancellations ... [email protected] - Popped off an email on the 16 of March....got a call back today...and 25% discount has been load.
 
I also sent an email, was up front and asked for a discount due to problems on my line. I did say under no circumstances do i want the line cancelled, i just want the discount.

so watch it being cancelled now. Lol :D

nooo.. unfair :( when I phoned them the beginning of last year when my discount disappeared, I was told that they no longer give the discount. :(
