On the phone today I was told by a techi, that he had logged into uniweb on checked what the adsl availbility was in our area he read it as 512kbs was the Maximum BUT last year it was 4mb .... SO without even telling us they downgraded the Exchange without our knowlage AND still Charge us for the 4mb

Speedtest used to read around 3.5mb local ... now its 0.4
Telkom are nothing less than thiefs how can they downgrade the exchange but keep charging you for 4mb

Surely you would notice very quickly if you had been downgraded from 4Mb to 512kbps? It's not the kind of thing that just slips past you.

Of the 3x 4mb lines I have at work none are synching at 4096 anymore. All of them were before and the max attainable was on 10mb according to the router. Now they are unable to sync at even 4mb. Something is happening to some of the exchanges from what I can see.

It's because they are overselling on the exchanges. Hell, they might even be so bad that instead of replacing broken equipment, they just take it out and leave it like that. Telkom, you suck big balls.

I'd suggest that you read up on how to lodge a complaint in the Telecoms Regulations forum which was launched last week and then submit it.

I really find it horrific that Telkom would sell 10Mbps connections to home users, before supplying reliant 4-10Mbps connections to businesses that actually need it.

yeah if businesses had better internet then people would get there work done at work rather than take it home and use up all the private connections :P

But thanx for the link ill try it out.

Yes definitely happening indiscriminately in Cape Town CBD, had to request Telkom to upgrade several clients again from 4 - 10 MB, after the speeds were reduced without notification. (Some a few meters from the Barrack Street exchange - no excuse can be given that the line cannot maintain 10 MB speeds)

Downgraded :D Umm, yep. Eskom, SAPS, SADF, SABC, local municipality, national government, your local shopping centre. Hell, look around you, it's all been 'downgraded'. Reach for your wallet and embrace it :D
