Telkom earnings down

They're losing shirtloads on Multi-Links and keep pouring money in.
SA telecoms just love Nigeria for some reason...

The SENS article is a boring read, but this line caught my eye (page 9): "Currently mobile customers are experiencing the effects of a highly congested network and poor quality of
service."

Wonder what evidence they have to support this claim?

The section where they give details on all the legal action against them was pretty interesting.

If earnings are down how can they declare a special dividend.
Is this going the same way as the SABC, SAA, Road Accident Fund, National health care system ETC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pour more taxpayers money down the drain

So where are they going to get money for next years special Dividend

Did you read the part about the data centres?

Quote:
Telkom can rely on a number of key differentiating factors related to Data
Centre operations. We are already a major player in the connectivity and
managed network space and currently have 7,500 square metres of data centre
space. We are currently managing over R2.5bn of IT assets and are currently
completing the addition of a further 2,200 square metres at a cost of R400
million which will be operational by July 2009. This fact confirms Telkom as
the largest provider of data centre services in terms of square metres in
high quality, high availability space in Sub-Saharan Africa. We are currently
conducting market research to assess the feasibility of adding a further
5,000 square metres. Our intention is to build carrier neutral data centres.

They sold Vodacom

Not to mention, their profit might be down, but they STILL made R6.4 Billion profit.
Thats R6,400,000,000, which is a little less than R1 per person on the face of the earth.

In profit.

Wait, let me put it this way: In PROFIT, they made:
R 17,534,246 per day.
R 730,593 per hour.
R 12,176 per minute.

R12,176

Per minute...

Profit!

Who feels a little overcharged NOW?

Disclaimer: I'm no actuary, so maybe 'Operating profit' means something else than 'this is how much we pocketed this year after paying our bills', but thats a crap load of money. I'm GLAD its down by 29%. Last year i did the same calculation and it came to about R16000 profit per minute, which in my mind is totally insane.
